While Marathon is an extraction shooter and you will be using your own voice most of the time with your teammates, the game features a large cast of playable characters and interesting NPCs. You'll need these to complete quests and buy ammo, and you might be surprised to hear some familiar voices as you interact with them.
Marathon: The Complete Guide to Factions
Want to know which faction to level first in Marathon? We have prepared this complete guide for you.
Popular voice actors like Erica Lindbeck, Elliot Knight and JB Tadena are in Marathon. There are also other names you may remember from movies and TV shows. Let's go through all the main characters in Marathon and who their voice actors are.
We'll also go over some characters that haven't appeared at the time of writing but have already been confirmed and have some big names behind them.
Destroyer
Voiced by JB Tadena
Destroyer is one of the most aggressive and direct Runner Shells. In the beginning, you can often play or see this character played by JB Tadena. Tadena is an American actor who has worked on television series such as The Cleaning Lady (2022-2025) and Kung Fu (2021-2023).
It wasn't his first time voicing a video game, as he starred in Call of Duty Vanguard and Ghost of Yotei in uncredited roles.
Vandal
Voiced by Erica Lindbeck
Vandal likes to run and has great mobility in the game. Voiced by Erica Lindbeck, Lindbeck has an extensive resume when it comes to bringing video game characters to life: Augustine de Vries (The Outer Worlds 2), Dolly (Date Everything), Liesel (Xenoblade Chronicles X), Blaze the Cat (Sonic), Jessie Rasberry (Final Fantasy VII Rebirth), and Peppermint among many others (Hi-Fi Rust. The list goes on and on.
If her acting resume isn't enough for you, you'll be happy to know that she's had amazing success in animated films and anime, voicing over 40 characters from 2014 to 2023.
Sorting
Voiced by Elliot Knight
Triage is your medic and Runner Shell that you'll want on every team in Marathon. He's played by Elliot Knight, and that name might ring a bell if you've played a little one India a reboot of the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare trilogy. He voiced Kyle Garrick, one of the playable protagonists.
But video games are only a small part of Knight's career. Between television and cinema, he has been involved in many projects over the years, such as Sinbad (2012), Once Upon a Time, Billionaire Ransom, Titans, The Boys, Hacks and more.
Murderer
Voiced by Elias Toufexis
Elias Toufexis had to play as two playable characters in Marathon and one of them is Assassin. Assassin likes to be invisible and silently take out enemies. The character that will probably annoy you the most is when you unexpectedly die while running.
Toufexis has shown some range in the industry having played the likes of Adam Jensen in the latest Deus Ex, Takkar in Far Cry Primal, Penguin in Gotham Knights and Remi in 2025's Hell is Us.
Recon
Voiced by Nika Futterman
As its name suggests, Recon is all about finding out where your enemies are. This Shell can easily do this with its radar and small spider drone that tracks enemies.
Recon is played by Nika Futterman, an American voice actor who has been voicing animated characters for decades. Her credits include Olga Pataki in Hey Arnold!, Gridface Princess in Adventure Time, Asajj Ventress in Star Wars: The Clone Wars, and Luna Loud in The Loud House.
Raven
Also voiced by Elias Toufexis
Rook is another character brought to life by Elias Toufexis. This is a unique class that you cannot use in a team as it is exclusive to solo play. Used when you've run out of loot and want to try your luck by bringing some.
Rook may not be a proper character like the other playable Shells, and he certainly doesn't have much “aura” as the kids say these days, but it's still great to have someone with a long resume behind him.
They
Voiced by Donnla Hughes
Oni is the AI that welcomes you and guides you through the factions of the game. They'll give you contracts that act as quests and build you various NPCs to find and work with. Definitely one of the voices you'll hear most of the time in Marathon.
Speaking of which, Oni's cybernetic voice is a reality thanks to Donnle Hughes. Hughes is a name that might not ring a bell, as her Marathon work is her role in video games, and she previously had film experience: Godard & Others (2010), Fishmonger (2023), Art Is… (2013).
Joy
Voiced by Jennifer English
If you watched the gameplay trailer and the female AI voice sounded familiar, that's because the amazing Jennifer English stars in Marathon. Jennifer English, known for her fantastic roles as Maelle (Clair Obscur: Expedition 33), Shadowheart (Baldur's Gate 3) and the upcoming Gwendolyn in Tides of Annihilation, is the voice of Joy, an AI from the colony who will play an important role in the story.
More information about Joy will be revealed in the future of Marathon.
Darius
Voiced by Neil Newbon
Darius is one of the AIs we've heard about in the Marathon trailers, but still don't know much about. Except, of course, for the fact that he's voiced by the great Neil Newbone.
Newbon has become a fan favorite in recent years thanks to characters like Astarion (Baldur's Gate 3), Karl Heinsenberg (Resident Evil Village), Drysdale (Date Everything) and many, many more. He also has a prolific resume in television as his acting career began in this medium.
General Davic Reed
Voiced by Roger Clark
If you think Red Dead Redemption 2 is one of the best video games of the century, it probably has a lot to do with Arthur Morgan, the game's protagonist. Morgan's writing is excellent, as is his voice acting: we have Roger Clark to thank for that.
We still have to wait to meet his character in Marathon, General Davic Reed, who is only found in some of the voice recordings found in the Codex. One thing is for sure: he will put on a performance to remember.
