How to defeat Lucian Baster in Crimson Desert

This is one of the hardest bosses I've faced Crimson desert (yet). Lucian Bastier comes in at the end of the eighth act and you he has to fight him like Damian. If, like me, you've been ignoring the other characters up to this point and just focused on leveling Kliff and his abilities, this fight is a bit of a nightmare. I was busy with lower level gear and didn't really understand how the character worked.

But with a little persistence – and better preparation and practice – I was eventually able to beat Lucian Bastier. Here's how I did it.

Prepared by Lucian Bastier

Damian's equipment before the Bastier fight in the Crimson Desert.

At the end of the eighth act, Kliff is injured, meaning it's up to Damian to take the reins and defeat Lucian Bastier. I have not used Damian until now at all. Not for any particular reason, I was just focused on Kliff. Damian it only has level three gear by defaultwhich is just not good enough at this point in the game.

However, since most of the quests are locked to playing as Kliff, you can't actually unlock any other Abyss Artifacts. This makes upgrading Damian's gear a bit more complicated.

You could reset your skills to get the artifacts back and fully spec Damian for this fightor you can just upgrade where possible, equip yourself with some jewelry (Damiane has no earrings, rings, or necklace when you get her) and see how her skills work.

I went with the second option and ended up with this set of gears:

  • Flower earrings

    • These are just spare earrings I had from opening the locker at Mudridge Cabin near Porrorin Forest.

  • Level Three Ancient Earrings

    • Another reserve from looting vaults at the Demeniss mansions

  • Level 3 Spencer Pistol

  • Level Three Demeniss Elite Uniform Leather Armor

  • Level 4 Demen Uniform Leather Cloak

  • Tier Four White Wind Rapier

  • Level 4 Demen's Uniform Leather Gloves

  • Level 4 Demenissian Elite Uniform Leather Boots

  • Level Four Demenissian Gold-Decorated Shield

I do upgrade some equipment parts that required common materials such as Rapier, Gloves, Boots, Shield and Cloak. However, other than that, other upgrades required artifacts and bloodstones, which I unfortunately did not have.

However, I did it visit the Witch and open several slots on this device. I went for three cores of the Abyss on the sword, including Resource Recovery On Kill, Attack 2 and Wind Slash. Ideally, I would have liked some core from Kliff's gear, but it was out of commission.

I also lengthened my chest +1 Health, +1 Stamina and 2.0 Damage Reduction.

Damiane also comes with default skill set. I did not mess with these and she just worked with what she came with. Below I will look at some strategies with her available skills.

Food preparation

This is where the food really comes in handy. I built up a huge supply of food, from buying chewy rice cakes and meat mash every day from Ronnie at Greymane Campfor crafting Hearty meat skewers using tender meat from deer hunting and vegetables I found while plundering the world.

I also had a backup source about 30 other foodsfrom random bits and pieces I stole from mansions to dishes I looted from dead enemies. Every bit of food comes in handy when you're trying to fight a boss like Lucian Bastier.

Lucian Bastier's Boss Mechanics Guide

Lucian Bastier swings his mace at Damian in the Crimson Desert.

They exist two phases to fight Lucian Bastier. The first phase is relatively calm once you understand his attack patterns and figure out how to use Damian's abilities.

First phase

It's not a straightforward fight, but there is one key strategy that helped me beat it easily (after a bit of trial and error). I used a combination A blinding flash and Damian's right trigger ability, Smiting Bolt, deals light damage to Lucian while still managing to dodge all incoming damage.

One of Damian's advantages over Kliff is that she is very fast, which comes in handy for this fight. You can dodge repeatedly without using up all your stamina.

With a little good timing you can too stun Lucian every time he's about to attack with Blinding Flash (RB + LB). It took me a while to get the timing right, but you have to watch out for when he's about to raise his sword or go into an attack stance. Damiane's Blinding Flash is very fast, so you should be able to catch it.

Then I used a combination of Damian's Smiting Bolt and Forward Lunge ability dealing a lot of damage.

If possible, try to conserve food supplies in this fight. It may take a little longer, but be patient and wait for the perfect time to strike. Lucian attacks so fast that you simply won't be able to damage him if you keep trying to attack quickly.

Phase Two (Awakened Lucian Bastier)

This second phase is absolutely brutal. Bastier attacks so fast and with such ferocity that at times it seems impossible to counter or block. My only advice here is bring plenty of food, more food than you ever thought you'd need, and master the art of reducing the timing of Blinding Flash with your Smiting Bolt.

Ideally, you always want to be as far away from the boss as possible in this fight. Don't try to use Damian's gun, Bastier dodges every bullet.

My strategy was to hold back and dodge repeatedly as Bastier's spectral allies began slashing and attacking. You can't fight him when his copies are up, so you just have to avoid spamming and hope for the best.

Once the spectral allies are down, I hit Blinding Flash, dived into some basic attacks and combos, hit him with Smiting Bolt and repeated. It took a while and I burned most of the food, but it finally worked.
