The above cards are reprints that the leak suggests are appearing in this pre-con, but they do exist four new cards which we cannot fully identify from the press sheet. Prismari Pianist, Gleaming Shallow, Renegade Bull, and a card that has its name cut off but ends in Flocking are the new cards being talked about.
Until we get a good look at these cards, we won't include them in the decklist, just because names and abilities may have changed since this press sheet was produced, but they will probably be in some form in the final package.
Full spoiler and Commander deck lists are expected in mid-March to early April
Magic: The Gathering – Secrets of the Strixhaven Deckmaster
The mystical colleges of Magic: The Gathering return in five new Commander packs, each with their own unique playstyle and stylish leader.
Disintegration of the commander
The commander of this pack is Rootha, Mastering the Moment, an Orc Sorcerer who spawns a red-blue elemental with flying and haste at the start of combat on your turn. Its power and toughness is equal to the highest mana cost spell (sorcery or instant) you cast in your first main phase.
Rootha doesn't display any other colors of mana on her card, which means that any cards you add to your deck must be red, blue, or a combination of the two.
For example, if you were to hard cast Volcanic Salvo for 12 mana in your first main phase, Rooth would then create a 12/12 elemental creature token with haste and flying.
This forces your opponents to be ready to react whenever Rootha is on the board during your turn.
Deck theme and strategy
Between the powers of this deck's Master Chief, Rooth, and the advice given on the packaging “Creating splash spells” and “Creating elemental attackers”we have a good idea of how the Prismari Atristry deck will play.
You are expected to be by casting spells during your first main phase, activate Rooth's abilitythen it's a case of saving your spells between turns to either protect your elemental tokens or flood the board with elemental creatures to maximize your damage.
With cards like Goldspan Dragon in the deck, you will too create treasure tokensa great way to make sure you don't burn through mana too quickly and allows you to cast more expensive spells to generate dangerous element tokens.
Upgrades
We won't suggest removing any cards here, as the full deck list is still incomplete, but we will list some cards that match the theme of the deck and they fit well with command skills.
Vivi Ornithier
This powerful card from the Final Fantasy set is an Izzet staple and fits well with this magical Prismari Atristry theme.
He can add any combination of red and blue mana equal to his total power and you can place a +1/+1 token on it whenever you cast a monster spell.
This card can be very powerful very quickly, adding to your mana pool as a bonus you can cast even more spellsthough he can only do this once per round.
Twinflame Travelers
This elemental creature from Lorwyn Eclipsed it triggers the abilities of all other elementals you have extra time on.
Even if Rootha's elemental tokens don't have the ability and Rootha isn't an elemental herself, you still can pack powerful elementals with useful abilitieswhich then activates additional time when paired with Twinflame Travelers.
Galvanic iteration
This two-mana instant spell lets you do just that copy your next spell and choose a new target for it.
Even better, it has a flashback, which means you can discard it from your graveyardthis time it costs three mana and then discards the card.
Wizard class
This class enchantment will allow you to do just that draw two cards and then discard two cards when they hit the battlefield. At level two, it allows you to tap creatures to add red or blue mana to cast only instant or sorcerer spells or buff a class.
Finally, at level three, every time you cast an instant or sorcery spell, the Sorcerer Class deals damage to each opponent equal to the number of spells and instants you cast that turn.
