Halo Campaign Evolved is “Pretty Much” content complete

Halo: Campaign Evolved may be much closer to release than anyone previously expected. While fans have been hungry for official updates from Microsoft, this new information hints at it Halo: Campaign Evolved is nearing the final stages of production, which bodes well for the 2026 calendar.

The project is a modern remake of the title that started it all in 2001. The game was developed by the newly rebranded Halo Studios and is built using funds from Halo Infinitewith subtle visual enhancements that aim to respect the original aesthetic while utilizing modern hardware. Until now, the studio has been relatively quiet about the remake's progress, leading many to question whether it will meet its 2026 launch window or slip into the following year. That silence was briefly broken by a partnership with Fanta, which hinted at some of the features players can expect Halo: Combat Evolved when he finally steps back into Master Chief's shoes. However, the wider development cycle has not been without obstacles, as recent headlines have also highlighted the former art director's legal charges against the company's senior management.

Reports suggest that several developers will be helping with the upcoming remake of Halo's original campaign.

Master Chief's next adventure and customization details

Insider RebsGaming claims this in his latest YouTube video Halo: Campaign Evolved is “largely complete content”, meaning that the main campaign and all other levels are completely replayable. This includes the highly anticipated prequel missions, which are said to expand on the lore by introducing the rivalry between Spartans and ODST units. These extra levels will also introduce Brutes and a brand new faction within the Covenant that wasn't in the original 2001 version. In addition to the narrative, this leak sheds light on a new “skin system” for Master Chief, allowing players to tweak his appearance in the campaign setting for the first time. Rebs Gaming notes that while many of these suits are based on the iconic Mark V armor, they have been redesigned with modern flares, and some may even offer a completely new take on the Chief's silhouette.

Much of the customization talk started when the Fanta Xbox collaboration revealed a special orange armor set for Master Chief. This led to immediate concerns that the game would be riddled with microtransactions, but the studio quickly decided to put those rumors to rest. Community Director Brian Jarrard has reportedly confirmed that there is no trade in the game, meaning that all armor sets and weapon skins will likely be earned through standard gameplay or special events. Weapon customization is also rumored, although the exact depth of these changes is still being kept under wraps.

Master Chief in Halo Campaign Evolved facing forward

With the game in such an advanced state, the conversation has naturally shifted to exactly when it will hit store shelves. A major reveal is expected during the Xbox Games Showcase on June 7, where a firm release date could finally be revealed. Speculation is that Microsoft is aiming for a summer launch, potentially in July or August, to give the game plenty of breathing room before the fall rush. There are also rumors that the publisher wants to get the title out early to avoid clashing with a massive release Grand Theft Auto 6. If the “content completed” status is correct, the remaining time is likely to be spent polishing and fixing bugs rather than building new levels.

When it finally arrives, the remake is expected to launch on a wider variety of platforms than usual, including Xbox Series X/S, PC and even PlayStation 5. This cross-platform approach is in line with Microsoft's recent strategy to bring its biggest hits to more players. Halo has always been the face of the Xbox brand. Along with this first remake, there are even rumors that the studio is planning a remake Hello 2 and 3 using modern technologies. It's not all positive news, however, as the project comes amid serious legal allegations from former art director Glenn Israel, who alleged various wrongdoings at the studio. Despite these behind-the-scenes controversies, the hunger for a return to Pillar of Autumn is great. If these rumors are true, fans may not have to wait long to see Master Chief's first mission reworked for the next generation of consoles.
