Lego shares instructions for building a collection of Pokemon Kanto badges

It may have looked like Lego kicked off its first-ever Pokemon collection with three sets earlier this year, but they actually released five. The two “secret” sets were the Pokémon Center, which can only be purchased with Lego Insider points, and the Kanto Badge Collection, which was free with the $650 Venusaur, Charizard, and Blastoise set.

Out of the five sets, I liked the Kanto Badge Collection the most, and I'm sure I'm not the only one. It was incredibly frustrating that you could only get it by buying a bundle that cost more than the PS5. Well, it actually costs the same as the PS5 now thanks to PlayStation's latest price hike, but you get the point.

Even worse, the gift with purchase offer was only a limited-time deal. This means you won't get any badges at all, even if you spend $650 on one Pokemon Lego set. I can only assume that Lego received a lot of angry emails from Pokemon fans explaining that if the pins were available for purchase, they would be willing to throw down their cash to get the sought after set.

Lego is letting fans design its first-ever Pokemon TCG set

The winner of the Lego Pokemon TCG contest will see their set become a reality and even make money selling it.

Lego is slightly better. Instead of mass-producing more Kanto Badge Collection sets and putting them up for sale, she simply posted instructions for building the set on her website. All you have to do is collect the bricks you need to build the set and you too can have a set of Lego Kanto badges without blowing the money you save to afford a PS5.

Buying bricks with your badges

If you go to page 78 of the Kanto Badge Collection PDF, you will find a complete list of all the bricks you need. If you don't have all 312 pieces needed to build the blue box and the eight badges inside, you can go to the Pick-a-Brick section of the Lego website. Each piece in the badge collection instructions has an associated code so they are easy to find and add to your cart. Some Lego stores also have Pick-a-Brick sections, but the options won't be as exhaustive as those on the website.

Having missed out on getting a badge collection like GWP, I'll definitely give it a try. Hopefully Lego learned from their first wave of Pokemon sets and adapt accordingly to what the fans want. There are a lot more Pokemon sets coming, and while none of them have been officially revealed, a leak suggests that one of the next ones will be a Lego Poke Ball with Pokemon minifigures stored inside.
