Borderlands 4 was supposed to be released on the Nintendo Switch 2 last October. Its release was delayed by just a few days and all pre-orders were cancelled. However, at least one copy of the game seems to have made it off the factory line.
Someone bought a Switch 2 Copy of Borderlands 4 on Vinted
A Reddit user named Veloxplayer098 shared photos of a physical copy of Borderlands 4 for Switch 2 over the weekend. They apparently bought it on Vinted, and the seller claims they found the game at a flea market. It's all pretty weird and maybe a little shady, but limited evidence suggests that the game pictured is the real thing.
The images include a view of the game's case along with its card, which is the game's key card. That's where the first problem comes in. Once inserted into their Switch 2, there is nothing to download. There is no way to know if it was always a blank card or if there was actually something to redeem because the code was already claimed by the previous owner.
The Switch 2 port of Borderlands 4 is running into the same problem that Baldur's Gate 3 had on the Xbox Series S
The Switch 2 version of Borderlands 4 sounds less and less like it will be the same as on other platforms.
The game is real, but there is no way to play it
However, the owner's console acknowledges that it's a real game and even mentions the DLC and lists it on the eShop page, where it's still listed as releasing on October 3rd, 2025. Of course, that never happened, and at this stage there's a chance it never will. Last we heard about the Switch 2 version of Borderlands 4, work on it was suspended in February of this year. Many assumed that this basically meant that the Nintendo version of the game had been scrapped.
A copy of it that has appeared in the wild further shows how close we were to release day when Take-Two, 2K and Gearbox decided that the Switch 2 edition of Borderlands 4 was not fit for public consumption. This decision was made less than two weeks before the game was due to be released on Switch 2. With such a small gap between then and its planned release, it stands to reason that there were already physical copies out in the world. Now at least one of those copies has found its way onto someone's Switch 2.
The silver lining for Borderlands fans who have been left without the chance to play the latest game in the series thanks to the Switch 2 version being delayed indefinitely is that there's now an unexpected mobile spinoff to play. Borderlands Mobile takes place between the events of the third and fourth games and dropped last week. It's an unfinished version of the game that's only available in certain regions, but it's better than nothing.
