Agriculture is necessary to make a living Windrose more convenient, and if you want to start, all you have to do is secure some seeds and find fertile ground to find them. We are literal with the latter – Windrose it has building blocks called Fertile Soil (which can be turned into Seedbeds) and without them you won't be able to plant anything except bushes and trees. You can find fertile ground by exploring the Foothills biomes, though that may be easier said than done if you're just starting out.

Where to find fertile land in Windrose
Players can obtain fertile land by searching for ancient farms on the islands of the Foothills biome. You can only find these islands by sailing across the ocean, but if you want the game to locate the nearest one, go and complete the quest Revenge is best served cold. Completing this will trigger the Needle in Haystack quest, which will send you to the nearby island of Foothills.
If this is your first time going to the foothills island, be prepared. Bring the best weapons you have and try not to fight anything that is too tall for you.
Now, once you arrive at Foothills Island, set up a small beach camp with a tent, a fire, and a Fast Travel Bell. If you have Immersive Exploration turned off in your world settings, check all the question mark icons on the map one by one until you find an ancient farm. Once you find one, clear out any enemies that might be lurking there, then search for the seedbed. They are usually right next to one of the walls of the destroyed building.
Next, take out your pickaxe and then hit the fertile soil until it breaks into pieces. Make sure you get to the last bit because you'll need as much land as possible to create a farm that can handle all the seeds you need to plant.
Be sure to check the surroundings of any ancient farm you find. They usually have fully grown crops in them.
How to plant seeds in Windrose
Now that you have some fertile land, go back to your base and choose a good place to build your farm. Open the Build menu and then go to the Farming section. Here you will see the option to place fertile soil as well as any seeds you have discovered so far. Choose fertile soil and create your own seed bed.
Once the seed bed is built, you can now place your crop seeds on it. Fortunately, you don't have to care for these seeds to keep them growing. Just place them evenly and after a few days in the game, they will ripen into useful plants, fruits and vegetables.. Once you plant the seeds, go do something else while they grow. If you haven't already, the Glorious Hunters quest is great if you want a shiny musket for your collection.
The seeds are reusable; once you harvest a full-grown plant, you always get one seed back. You can buy seeds by purchasing a Food Merchant Contract from the People of Tortuga Provisioner in Tortuga. Once you get the trade contract, make sure you save some space in your base for a trader NPC.
Harvesting plants in the wild has a low chance of yielding seed.
