Most of Bungie's developers are working on Marathon instead of Destiny 2

According to a recent report, most of the developers at Bungie are now working on it Marathon place Fate 2. While Marathon is a new project for Bungie, and one that the team clearly wants to see succeed, these new details may not Fate 2 player base.

Marathon isn't the start of a new franchise for Bungie, but it's a return to a classic that hasn't seen a new entry since 1996. The first-person extraction shooter has since Fate 2so players who enjoyed themselves Fate 2PvE experience is not necessarily of interest to the user Marathon. While both games were worked on simultaneously until Marathonlaunch, Fate 2 players have already expressed concern that it could distract from Bungie's older game. It now appears that those concerns may have some validity.

Marathon packs all the best features of Destiny 2 with one of the worst

Marathon shares a lot of good features and gameplay aspects with Destiny 2, but it also doesn't seem to be designed for solo players.

Bungie is putting more emphasis on marathon development ahead of Destiny 2

This was reported by Bungie sources speaking to Forbes Marathon more developers are working on it than Fate 2. Although the exact number was not given, it is estimated that there are around 800 developers working on the extraction shooter at Bungie Marathon “cutting out Fate 2 by a bit” in terms of how many people are working on the title. Reports from a year ago suggested a 300/550 split, with most Fate 2but that seems to have changed with the release Marathon.

Fans Fate 2 they don't take this news well as it suggests that fewer resources are being put into the game for the benefit Marathon. Gamers were already sour when it was announced that the next big update for Fate 2Shadow and Order, has been pushed back to June 2026. However, multiple players are expressing disbelief that hundreds of team members are still working on Fate 2 at Bungie, due to slow updates. But for a game that once had a thousand or more people working on it, it's understandable that development would take longer with a workforce that was more than half that size.

Unfortunately for Bungie, the focus for now is on Marathon she didn't see the kind of numbers a developer might expect after success Fate franchise. Marathon it started off fairly strong with a peak of over 88,000 players on Steam, but has steadily declined since then, peaking at just 20,000 on Friday, April 24th. Even its release peak on Steam is a long way off Fate 2 launch to nearly 300,000 players on the PC platform in 2019. Despite slowing updates and the increasing age of the game, Fate 2 still manages to hold roughly half of the player base Marathon is in command right now, with just over 10,000 concurrent players recorded on the same day as Marathon20,000.

It's too early for that Marathonso it's quite possible that Bungie will see significant success with the extraction shooter as time goes on. If it ends, it means it Fate 2 it will become largely abandoned, however loyal Bungie fans may end up far away. Whether Fate 2 can meet players' expectations while Bungie simultaneously focuses on Marathon will be clearer as Fate 2: The release of Shadow and Order is coming.
