As part of the Literary RPG (LitRPG) genre. Dungeon Crawler Carl the series draws heavily from video games. As Carl and his friends travel through the eighteen-story dungeon in an attempt to regain control of Earth, they can gain classes, open loot boxes, learn new skills and abilities, and more.
Since the LitRPG genre is so closely associated with gaming, it's no wonder that Dungeon Crawler Carl the series will receive several spinoff games. Even so, there is still a lot of untapped potential beyond what has been announced and confirmed so far.
The best developer for Dungeon Crawler Carl is already clear
With Dungeon Crawler Carl rapidly expanding into other mediums outside of print, there is one developer who would be perfect for a video game adaptation.
The TTRPG and card game was fully funded
A partnership between developer Renegade Game Studios and Dungeon Crawler Carl author Matt Dinniman was announced in July 2025. The studio planned to develop a tabletop role-playing game set in the World Dungeon, as well as unstoppable a deck building game that supports both solo and co-op play. Renegade used crowdfunding website Backerkit to finance the project. It launched with an initial goal of $250,000, but ended up raising over eight million dollars, including $4.5 million in a single day.
The project reached dozens of larger goals and unlocked bonuses such as miniatures, pre-generated characters, art prints, and an “RPG Season Pass” packed with tons of exciting content. The project is still available for support for about two weeks as of this writing, with backers choosing between purchasing TTRPG, unstoppable or both. There are also plenty of accessories to purchase such as a GM screen, character journal, miniatures, play mats and dice bags based on designs including Carl's iconic boxers. The Dungeon Crawler Carl games are definitely among the most successful crowdfunding campaigns of all time.

It will probably make the “best of” list immediatelyDungeons and Dragons TTRPG,” Dungeon Crawler Carl the tabletop role-playing game allows players to create their own Crawler or play as pre-existing characters such as Carl, Princess Donut, Florin DuPont and more. The game has a strong focus on character customization, with the rules even including options for players to design their own class, skill set, or background. Features include:

The starter set includes floors 1 and 2, the “walkthrough floor”, from the first book, Dungeon Crawler Carl. The Core Rulebook focuses on floors 3-5 of the dungeon that Carl conquers in books two, three and four Dungeon Crawler Carl book series (Carl's Doomsday Scenario, The Dungeon Anarchist's Cookbook, and Gate of the Wild Gods). Future TTRPG updates will hopefully cover the later dungeon floors when Carl encounters them. horror show the next book in the series, due out on May 12, 2026, will see Crawler and his friends tackling the 10th and 11th floors. Renegade has confirmed that it plans to add to the game regularly through RPG Seasons, the first of which will run throughout 2026 and early 2027.
Complete quests and take down bosses in Unstoppable
Second Dungeon Crawler Carl game funded through Backerkit, Unstoppable is a deck building title containing over 200 cards in the base version. It focuses on completing quests and facing threats such as boss monsters in the different floors of the World Dungeon. It currently consists of the base game covering floors 1–3, the “Iron Tangle” expansion centered around the industrial maze of floor 4, and the “Crawler Chaos” expansion, which adds fan-favorite Crawlers such as Imani, Archie, and Prepotente. It will allow fans of the highly successful LitRPG series to immerse themselves in Carl's world like never before.
Unstoppable can be played in both Arcade mode, which is perfect for one-offs, and Campaign mode, which allows players to tell an ongoing story as they progress through the World Dungeon. It works as a solo game, but can also be played in co-op with a fellow Crawler. The roguelike gameplay elements of Carl's Journey feature players changing their skills and gaining new items and abilities as they progress through the game to create the most powerful deck possible. Unstoppable also offers four levels of difficulty, allowing Dungeon Crawler Carl fans to truly challenge themselves as Carl does at every step of his adventure.
The Backerkit campaign for the two games officially ends on May 15th, with Renegade Studios currently estimating a fulfillment date of October 2026. With how many people have pledged and how many different types of rewards and bonuses have been unlocked, it's no wonder the studio will take a while to ship everything. It gives Dungeon Crawler Carl fans plenty of time to read or listen Horror show between its May 12 launch and the games' October debut.
Will there be a Dungeon Crawler Carl video game?
There are currently no announced plans for a Dungeon Crawler Carl connecting video game. However, fans of the series are hopeful that such a game could be planned for the future, given that Dungeon Crawler Carl the series draws so heavily from a variety of genres, from roguelike dungeon crawlers (of course) to open world adventures and even card battlers like Pokémon. It's even possible that author Matt Dinniman is already in talks with potential developers DCC video game, but nothing has been confirmed yet.

Apart from the upcoming launch A Parade of Horribles, an ongoing webtoon is getting a makeover Carl's Adventures in Graphic Novel Format. A spinoff graphic novel focusing on crocodilian ex-mercenary Florin Du Pont has also been successfully funded through Backerkit, and a TV show is in development for the Peacock streaming platform in collaboration with Fuzzy Door Productions. Carl fans have plenty to keep them busy throughout 2026 and beyond. But hopefully a Dungeon Crawler Carl A spinoff video game is also on the horizon, as it would be an ideal addition to Carl's already heavily gamified world.
