New Mortal Kombat game confirmed

Mortal Kombat fans curious about the future of the franchise need wonder no more as another post has been confirmed by franchise director Ed Boon. How far is this news Mortal Kombat however, the game is left up in the air.

New Mortal Kombat Confirmation of the game is welcome good news after the announced cancellation of Future MK1 DLC. Reportedly canceled due to the disappointment of the Khaos Reigns expansion, both in terms of sales and community response, players are left wondering “what's next” for the franchise. The next item was always a matter of if, not when, as the base game sold well Mortal Kombat the franchise is as mainstream as ever thanks to the current series of films. Fortunately, this is now likely one of the next two games that NetherRealm will release.

Boon confirmed that NetherRealm is “definitely looking at more Mortal Kombat game” in an interview with Collider, but couldn't be more specific about what he and his team are working on because he's worried he'd “get in trouble” for teasing something else. However, he added that the studio is “definitely doing more” alongside the new one Mortal Kombat franchise. Many expect a new entry to Injustice series, with several leaks over the past few years hinting that such a game was in the works, and it would make sense for such a game to come out before Mortal Kombat. Whether new Mortal Kombat The first release of the game or the next NetherRealm title is anyone's guess, though it would make sense for it to drop sooner given how long it's reportedly been in the works.

What next Mortal Kombat The story of the game is also a mystery. Khaos Reigns wrapped up the story of the multiverse Havok (though the exact fate of the villain left unrevealed left fans scratching their heads), so there's room to introduce a new villain into the mix. Since NetherRealm can go in any direction with its narrative — though another reboot seems unlikely given how fresh the Fire God Liu Kang universe is — it will be interesting to see which way it goes.

Similarly, the gameplay of the next one Mortal Kombat could easily be a case of NetherRealm going back to the drawing board. It is unclear whether the Kameo system will return or be phased out as a transmission system. The ill-received Invasions mode could easily be scrapped, while the return of classic Krypt would certainly be celebrated Mortal Kombat fan base. Let's hope the next game can avoid controversies like those endured by its predecessor MK1The Switch version and microtransactions gave the game a lot of bad press.

While fans wait for news on the next game, they have something to look forward to Mortal Kombat 2 in theaters, which includes the debut of Karl Urban as Johnny Cage. This film is just one of the non-game projects NetherRealm is involved in, as some of the “pots on the stove” that Ed Boon mentions involve “other forms of media”.
