PlayStation users looking to get some PS4 or PS5 games at a discount will soon be in luck as Sony has rolled out a Next Level Savings event for the PlayStation Store. However, the upcoming PlayStation game sale doesn't start until mid-May, so fans will have to wait a little longer to see which titles will be discounted.
As the central digital store for Sony consoles, the PlayStation Store first appeared during the era of the PlayStation 3 and PSP consoles. Following the arrival of the PS4 and PS5, the PlayStation Store has since been integrated into the PlayStation operating system as a core feature rather than a standalone application. The PlayStation Store may yet make more changes to its user interface, as rumors suggest that horizontal game cards with short descriptions and labels could be added to the experience.

It's officially the end of an era for PS4
The PlayStation 4 has been going strong for over a decade, but support for the console is finally ending.
Sony's next-level savings campaign starts on May 13
PlayStation fans will soon be able to add some games to their digital collections at a discount. The Next Level Savings event begins on Wednesday, May 13, according to a banner posted on the PlayStation Store's deals page. The event banner first appeared after the offers tab was removed for 12 hours before suddenly returning. Past PlayStation sales have typically taken place during major holidays or seasons, although discounted games and their prices have usually varied for each event. However, it's unclear which games will be discounted during the Next Level Savings event or how long the sale will last. In the meantime, potential customers can bookmark the PlayStation Store's deals page ahead of the sale.

However, it's possible that not everyone will see the same offers during the PlayStation Next Level Savings event. From the end of 2025, PlayStation is testing dynamic pricing on the PlayStation Store for AAA games with titles such as Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2, Astro Botand God of War: Ragnarok discounts for certain users. However, the random nature of dynamic pricing has drawn criticism from PlayStation fans, with some calling it a predatory design practice. However, it is not yet clear whether dynamic pricing will be used for the Next Level Savings promotion, or whether Sony will go with traditional discounts.
The next level save event comes at an odd time
The Next Level Savings store event comes at a difficult time for PlayStation and its fans. During April, Sony increased the prices of the PS5 line of consoles in multiple regions. The US, UK, Europe and Japan saw PS5 prices jump in early April, followed by South Korea and parts of Southeast Asia a few weeks later. At the time of writing, the PS5 Digital Edition starts at $599.99, the Disc Drive Edition starts at $649.99, and the PS5 Pro will set users back a whopping $899.99.

The latest round of PS5 price hikes was driven by global market conditions caused by the ongoing DRAM shortage crisis. The crisis appears to have affected the development of the PlayStation 6 console. According to a statement by Sony president and CEO Hiroko Totoki during the earnings call, the price and release window of the PS6 have not yet been decided, although the company is looking at potential ways to sell it.
