While the two teams are yet to be fully revealed, fans have been wondering what game modes will be available in the game at launch. Arc System Works has previously mentioned a single-player episode mode Marvel Token during the Unbreakable X-Men reveal, but details were limited at the time. At the time, it was confirmed that the mode would serve as a collaboration between ArcSys and Marvel Comics to mix American comics and Japanese manga to tell the game's story. In a recent interview, Takeshi Yamanaka talked more about Episode Mode and the idea of trying to take the traditional campaign concept in a different way. Yamanaka confirmed that Episode Mode will tell its story through motion comics. Using the manga as a base, the team then added movement to each panel to help move the story along. With 5 teams currently in the game, Episode Mode has about 10 hours of story content for players to go through. However, most of the mode is based on watching the comic as it was designed with the idea that the player is actually reading the comic. It was initially hinted that there would be no interactive elements, but the interview was recently updated to indicate that there would be playable battles at certain points.
