Each region in Pokemon the series has its own identity, whether it comes from the real-world location it's based on or the game mechanics and critters found there. WITH Pokemon Legends: ZA recently gave the Kalos region a chance to shine again Pokemon X and Y there are so many loose ends left that it's painfully obvious that the other two regions are still missing something that the rest of the franchise has already experienced. PokemonThe Johto and Sinnoh regions are particular outliers in the series, as they don't have access to a key battle gimmick.
WITH Pokemon winds and waves on the horizon and rumored to feature a new Gen 10 combat mechanic, allegedly focused on the weather, it looks like Pokemon the trend of the series will continue. Since Gen 5, almost every new one Pokemon the released game featured some sort of twist on the traditional Pokemon battles. Some of these battle tricks are definitely more popular than others, but strangely the Johto and Sinnoh regions never had access to any of them. Pokemonhistory.

I've played Pokemon HeartGold for 86 hours and this is my official Johto Pokemon tier list
Based on my recent playthrough of Pokemon HeartGold (as well as the previous ones), this is my tier list for the Pokemon originally introduced in Johto.
Johto and Sinnoh lack the main battle mechanic that other Pokémon have
The Johto and Sinnoh regions certainly have their own claims to fame. Johto is notorious for being right next to Kanto, allowing players to visit the neighboring region in every game in which it has appeared. However, aside from just being adjacent to Kanto, Johta's gameplay is typically characterized by a slow leveling curve and reliance on Gen 1 pokemon.

The Sinnoh region is infamous for being the home region of the same generation that introduced the Physical/Special Split in Gen 4. Aside from this rework, it doesn't feature any truly unique battle gimmicks and is largely memorable for other reasons such as the underground side activity and the difficult Champion Cynthia battle. While the tradition of the Sinnoh region was more specific Pokemon Legends: Arceusthe region seen in this game does not reflect modern Sinnoh and instead adopts the name Hisui to distinguish itself.

A generational battle trick trend has begun Pokemon black and white features triple and rotating battles. Although these battles were not very relevant and largely unpopular, they paved the way for each one to follow Pokemon generation with some kind of battle twist. Gen 6 knocked it out of the park with the entry of Mega Evolution Pokemon X and Yso much so that it persisted into Gen 7 and recently made a huge comeback in Gen 9 s Pokemon Legends: ZA. Aside from Mega Evolution, which was largely an afterthought in the post-game, Sun and Moon introduced the Z-Move mechanic, which allowed players to unleash an extremely powerful move once per battle. However, Z-Moves remained exclusive to the Alola region.
Mega Evolution was missing in Gen 8, but Sword and shield He made up for this loss by adding Dynamax and Gigantamax, which were made exclusively for the Galar Region due to the powerful stains that appeared in the region after Darkest Day. Although originating from Paldea's Area Zero, Pokemon Scarlet and VioletIn the DLC, this phenomenon expanded to Kitakami in Teal Mask and Unova via Blueberry Academy in The Indigo Disk.
Johto and Sinnoh missed the ship due to a unique battle trick
Kanto and Hoenn are the only two pre-Gen 5 regions that have access to some sort of battle trick, with Mega Evolution possible in both. Mega Evolution's presence in Kanto and Hoenn comes from the fact that both regions received remakes during Gen 6 and Gen 7, when the mechanic was still part of the generation's game systems. Pokemon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire expanded by Mega Evolutions of X and Yfeaturing the new Mega for Hoenn starters as well as a number of other Gen 3 Pokemon. Johto remakes in form HeartGold and SoulSilver came in Gen 4 and Sinnoh remake in form A brilliant diamond and a shining pearl came in Gen 8, meaning they were both just outside the window to experience Mega Evolution. Although Dynamax existed in Gen 8, its in-universe status as a Galar-exclusive phenomenon meant that it could not appear in Pokemon BDSP. And with Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl Pokemon Being faithful remakes of the Gen 4 games, it's clear why no battle gimmick was included.
A Johto remake feels overdue
Now that Mega Evolution is back in the spotlight Legends: ZAthese regions have a chance to finally get in on the action. Since Sinnoh just got remade, it's unlikely that the region will reappear anytime soon. However, Pokemon HeartGold and SoulSilver he's now pushing 16, which means a return to Johto is more needed than ever. AND Let's go Johto The game has been on the wishlist of many fans for some time now, and it would be the perfect excuse to give the region access to Mega Evolution.
