In 2017 they brought Virtuos LA Noire on Nintendo Switchand the port specialist says he'd like to do the same for several other big Rockstar-developed games. For decades, Nintendo platforms had a negative image when it came to M-rated games. While systems like the GameCube played host to titles like Resident Evil and Eternal darknessSociety tried to shed its “childish” perception. That changed in the Nintendo Switch era, as the system began to attract franchises that were largely left out by systems like the GameCube and 3DS.
Red Dead Redemption was ported to the Nintendo Switch in 2023 and Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy also got an issue in the system. However, many of Rockstar's most popular games remain unavailable on the popular handheld console. Things are obviously different from the days when Wii and Wii U owners lost almost everything Rockstar developed, but there's still plenty of room for improvement.

FromSoftware's Duskbloods is getting an encouraging update
Developer FromSoftware is developing The Duskbloods, and it seems like it's good news for those expecting a Nintendo Switch 2 game.
Virtuos wants to bring more Rockstar favorites to the transition
In an interview with Pocket Tactics, developer Virtuos reflected on what he brought LA Noire on Nintendo Switch. In the nine years since then, the studio has worked on several other games, including Metroid Prime 4: Beyond. It didn't work on another Rockstar-developed game, but “the team is eager to adapt Grand Theft Auto 5 and Red Dead Redemption 2 for Nintendo Switch,” should the opportunity arise. Switch version 2 Red Dead Redemption 2 there are rumors, but nothing has ever been confirmed.

Ports of both games would make a lot of sense. GTA 5 has already sold more than 200 million copies, but a release on Nintendo platforms could help the game reach even more players. As development costs continue to rise, companies are increasingly looking for ways to profit from existing titles. There's no telling if it does GTA 5 or Red Dead Redemption 2 could be ported to the original Switch without significant performance compromises, or if the games had to be released on the Switch 2 to work.
While Virtuos clearly want to port these games to Nintendo platforms, the ball is firmly in Rockstar's court. It is worth noting that Double Eleven was involved in the development of the Switch version Red Dead Redemptionand Rockstar might be more inclined to have that studio handle a potential pro port Red Dead Redemption 2. Until something is officially announced, it's all moot. Still, it's encouraging that a veteran studio wants to handle these ports, and Rockstar is interested in offering more of its games on Nintendo platforms.

Rockstar's relationship with Nintendo has been interesting to watch over the past few years. At one point, it would seem unimaginable to like games LA Noire and Red Dead Redemption coming to Nintendo platforms. It's clearly a new era GTA 6 there was even talk of a Switch 2. That one seems a little unlikely, but it's impossible to say for sure. For now, fans of the company will have to wait and see if Rockstar decides to offer more.
