New Nintendo According to Giant Bomb's Jeff Grubb, the live presentation will take place by mid-June. While the short Nintendo Direct focused entirely around the new Star Fox game took place earlier this month, fans have been eagerly awaiting news of the next real event. Nintendo tends to stay tight-lipped about these kinds of presentations, rarely offering too much advance warning.
The Switch 2's first anniversary is fast approaching, and plans for the system in the second half of 2026 remain a very big mystery. Yoshi and the mysterious book, Star Foxand Splatoon Raiders all will be released between May and July, but nothing else has been announced. Fire Emblem: Fortune's Weave will arrive sometime this year aa Zelda: Ocarina of Time remake is rumored for the holidays. The next Nintendo Direct should offer a clearer idea of what to expect before the end of the year.

When to expect the next Nintendo Direct
On an episode of Giant Bombcast, Jeff Grubb said that the next Nintendo Direct will take place in mid-June, noting that he is not aware of the exact date. Summer Game Fest starts on June 5th, and Grubb speculates that the Nintendo Direct should take place sometime around the same time frame. He also noted that he was unable to determine whether it would be a general Nintendo Direct or a Partner Showcase. However, Grubb seems to gravitate towards general Direct due to his proximity to other industry shows.

Traditionally, Nintendo Direct presentations are often held in June, offering companies the opportunity to outline plans for the second half of the year. For example, a Nintendo Direct in June 2023 offered a first look at Super Mario Bros. Wondereven before the game's release in the fall. With a price increase coming in September, Nintendo wants to increase the value of owning the Switch 2. A big Nintendo Direct in June could help the company sell that message, especially if it has any big new games to announce.
While last year saw a lot of support for the Nintendo Switch 2, many fans are eager to get a clearer picture of the system's future. There they were Mario Kart World DLC rumors, but the game has seen little substantial new content over the past year. Fans also want to know about successors to big Switch games like Super Mario Odyssey and Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. There's no indication that these things will be revealed anytime soon, but Nintendo needs to start getting fans excited for things to come in 2027.

If the Nintendo Direct is indeed set to take place in June, fans shouldn't have to wait too long for an announcement. Switch 2 owners have a lot to look forward to in the next few months, but it looks like it's time for Nintendo to pull back the curtain on the rest of 2026 and beyond. Pokemon winds and waves should help sell a lot of Switch 2 consoles in 2027, but there needs to be more in the meantime. Hopefully fans will see some new software to help them feel justified in purchasing a Switch 2.
