Marvel Rivals takes on cheaters

It's a bad time to be a cheater Marvel Rivals, as NetEase has just cracked down on annoying exploiters with a massive ban wave, with the company threatening to take tougher action against those caught playing unfairly in the future. Marvel Rivals competitive integrity has been an issue in the community this season, as its anti-cheat is reportedly quite easy to bypass, leading to potential in-game hacking.

Season 8 has been launched by NetEase Games Marvel Rivals May 15, 2026 and brings with it the Devil Dinosaur and Cyclops as new playable heroes along with brand new cosmetics and a new battle pass. While Marvel Rivals has had a strong player base since its debut in 2024, the game's anti-cheat has been a source of controversy since its release due to kernel-level access to the user's computer. Season 8 in particular saw increased scrutiny of the game's security. This was recently claimed by prominent Twitch streamer Jay3OW Marvel Rivals' anti-cheat feature could apparently be “deleted” without much consequence. So far these claims have not been verified, but it appears that NetEase is now taking significant steps to address the cheating Marvel Rivals regardless.

Despite Marvel Rivals dominating Overwatch of late, Blizzard's latest fumble may be just what NetEase needs to get back into the fray.

NetEase issued a large wave of bans Marvel Rivalspublicly lists 504 players found to be abusing the game through cheats, utilities or client manipulation. A quick look at this wave of bans for Marvel Rivals tells an interesting story. Most of the recently banned players never even reached bronze or silver, the two lowest positions in the rankings Marvel Rivals PvP. Whether these accounts were created to avoid bans on their main accounts is unknown, but it would certainly be somewhat funny for these cheaters to get banned for using exploits without actually maxing out in the game. Only a handful of players banned in this wave belonged to the ranks of One Above All or Grandmaster.

Fans online are celebrating this ban spree, but we feel NetEase Games could do a little more for it Marvel Rivals a better experience. The community is still calling for harsher punishments for players who are clearly toxic in text or voice chat and are still frustrated with smurfs and throwers who don't get the same bans as cheaters, yet still do Marvel Rivals overall worse experience. How NetEase plans to deal with these minor transgressions in the future remains to be seen. Marvel Rivals next best contestant, Overwatchhas similarly been dealing with these issues for ten years.
