Magic: The GatheringThe next edition will be released on June 23, 2026 in the form of the highly anticipated Marvel Super Heroes set. Despite the mixed reception to the Universes Beyond products and sets, Marvel Super Heroes has a large fan base due to the inclusion of many iconic Marvel heroes and villains, as well as key moments, items and locations. With millions of Marvel fans around the world trying to appease, and a mountain of source material, it's no surprise MTGMarvel Super Heroes is the largest set ever, featuring over 600 new mechanically unique cards. Of course, not all of them would be extremely powerful, but it was inevitable that some would be.
This is the case with the new Magic: The Gathering Marvel Super Heroes card, which is basically different Thassa's Oracle with its pros and cons. Thassa's Oracle is one of the most famous, played and loved (or hated) MTG cards in Commander because it can win the game in one turn. Having another card with similar abilities is no fun, and that's what the new Doctor Doom, Unrivaled, part of the Marvel Super Heroes Commander set does.

The 30 Rarest Spells: Collecting Cards (And How Much They Cost)
Magic: The Gathering has some of the rarest and most valuable cards of any TCG, and collectors are still tripping over each other to find these pieces.
MTG's Doctor Doom, unmatched and Thassa's Oracle Explained
Doctor Doom, Unrivaled is a four CMC (two generic, two black) 4/4 creature with lifelink and a tap ability that allows the owner to draw a card and lose 1 life. After that, the user wins the game if there are no cards left in the library. At first it may seem like a much weaker Thassa's Oracle, because it is, but combined with a sound strategy and some powerful cards, it can be just as deadly, if not slightly superior. First, if you're wondering what Thassa's Oracle does, it's a two Blue 1/3 creature that allows the owner to look at X cards from the top of their library and put one on top, where X is the number of Blue mana players among the permanents they control. More importantly, if X is greater than or equal to the number of cards in the library, the owner wins the game. Does not use new MTG Marvel Super Heroes mechanics, but they don't have to.

Discussion of banning Thassa's Oracle v MTG have been plentiful over the years because they provide an instant win condition when paired with cards like Demonic Consultation or Tainted Pact. While Thassa's Oracle is more powerful than Doctor Doom, unmatched by its effect that occurs when it enters the field rather than tapping it, while not limiting the effect to a single drawn card, the new Marvel card has a lot of potential when paired with some of the same combo pieces as others.
MTG combos for Doctor Doom, unmatched
Doctor Doom, Unrivaled is potentially one of the best commanders out there MTGand an amazing mono-black commander due to his instant win ability, but he needs the right support to do so. Here are some combinations to consider:
- Doctor Doom, Unrivaled + Haste: Cards like Lavaspur Boots, Lightning Greaves, Swiftfoot Boots and even a skateboard from MTGAll TMNT sets grant the equipped creature haste, allowing Doctor Doom, Unrivaled to be tapped immediately upon entering the field. With other combo pieces ready, this can win the game instantly.
- Thassa's Oracle at Home: Combining Doctor Doom, Unrivaled with Tainted Pact or Demonic Consultation wins the game if Doctor Doom can be tapped in the same turn. The way it works is that you don't put cards in your hand with Tainted Pact or name a card that isn't actually in your deck with Demonic Consultation. The library drops to zero and Doctor Doom wins from there.
- Doctor Doom, Unrivaled + Leveler: Leveler removes the owner's library from play when entering the field. At this point, Doctor Doom, Unrivaled can be tapped to draw a card and lose 1 life while winning the game if there are no other cards in the library. Normally, drawing when the library is empty loses the game, but this condition is checked only after all spells and abilities on the stack have been resolved, so Doctor Doom, Unrivaled's win condition applies first.
- Doctor Doom, Unrivaled + Doomsday: Not an instant win two-card combo, but it gets you very close. Interestingly, Doomsday is not new MTG Marvel Super Heroes card, but an old base card that costs three black and allows you to remove your entire library from play except for the five cards in it that make up the new library. With only five in the deck, it's very easy to win from here, such as through Ad Nauseam.
- Doctor Doom + Basalt Monolith + Mesmeric Orb: You don't need anything else on the field with these cards. Basalt Monolith taps for three mana and can be canceled by spending three mana and feeding. Mesmeric Orb turns any player who taps a permanent mill into a card. This can be done endlessly with Basalt Monolith, reducing the library to zero and winning against Doom.
These are just some of the combos you can pull off with Doctor Doom, unmatched and try to win on the spot. Still, some cards will most likely be needed in any deck with Marvel's Doctor Doom to win:
- Tutors — Cards like Vampire teacher or A demonic teacher in MTGbut also A diabolical plan, Imperial Sealand Please the queen are essentially mandatory. Not only do these cards thin your deck with each use, but they also allow you to have a surefire way (besides chips) to have all the combo pieces you need in your hand, ready to play for a win.
- Mana Ramp — Cards that give you mana are incredibly important because they can force you to cast more combo pieces in one turn or get to casting some hefty cards early. These cards include e.g A dark ritual, Cabal Ritual, Discharging the weakArcane Signet and even MTG'with Soul Stone from the Spider-Man set.
- Powerful countries — Since you should have all the cards with different names, it is good to have powerful lands. MTGFetch lands are great because they thin out the deck City of traitors and Ancient tomb provide more mana ramps and Baghdad bazaar can help you win after using Doomsday by drawing two cards. Yes, this is also one of the MTGthe most expensive cards, but fits the deck perfectly.
