Xbox is in for another round of big layoffs in July, as CEO Asha Sharma has announced that an overhaul of Microsoft's gaming division will begin in the coming days. At the time of writing, it is currently unclear how many jobs at Xbox and its various gaming subsidiaries will be affected by the impending cuts.
Xbox to make significant job cuts in July
A few days after the presentation of the Xbox Games Showcase, Xbox is already planning to reset its corporate infrastructure. In a letter sent to Xbox employees on July 10, Sharma outlined some of the key points of the overhaul, which included rebuilding the company's platform infrastructure. While Sharma did not directly mention any layoffs in her letter, the sources said the job cuts are expected to take place after Microsoft's current fiscal year ends on Tuesday, June 30. Xbox will reportedly cut marketing budgets and other areas of the company, though the extent of the cuts remains unknown. Sharma said the company's profit margin fell to 3% year-on-year. Sharma said that aside from the Activision Blizzard acquisition, Xbox has spent more than $20 billion over five years on ongoing investments, with annual revenue falling by nearly half a billion over that time.
