GTA 5 Current-Gen update will now be free for PS4 and Xbox One users

Starting tomorrow, Grand Theft Auto 5 players on PS4 and Xbox One will be able to upgrade to the current-gen Expanded and Enhanced Edition for free, just in time for the all-new GTA Online heist.

While we're all now sitting around waiting for any hint of news on GTA 6 as we reach its promised summer marketing campaign, Rockstar hasn't budged an inch yet. At least this is true for GTA 6 as we are more than happy to keep giving updates about GTA Online and Grand Theft Auto 5.

Earlier today, Rockstar announced that GTA Online's next big heist, The Kortz Center Heist, is coming this July, proving once and for all that they have no plans to retire the game anytime soon. But that wasn't all he announced, as Rockstar made a very generous gesture to anyone playing GTA 5 on last-gen consoles.

Starting tomorrow, you can upgrade to the current version of GTA 5 for free

I get the sense Rockstar wants anyone to switch to PS4 and Xbox One

GTA Online players are about to rob an art center.

In a Rockstar Newswire post detailing the Kortz Center Heist, it was also revealed that anyone who owns the PS4 or digital Xbox One version of GTA 5 will be able to upgrade to the PS5 and Xbox Series' Expanded and Enhanced Edition completely free of charge. This is so players can “experience the best versions of GTA 5 and GTA Online before The Kortz Center Heist launches.”

Second GTA 6 trailer dethroned GTA 5, but how much do views matter to sales?

Do trailer views translate directly to commercial success? It's complicated.

The free upgrade path will launch tomorrow and will probably always be available in the future. While we can all joke about getting GTA 5 for the fiftieth time, it's a good move by Rockstar considering that literally everyone owns GTA 5 in one form or another, and it doesn't hurt to let players experience the best version for free.

Of course, you he could be cynical about it and point out that PlayStation recently encouraged PS4 users to make the jump to PS5 in time for GTA 6, I choose to believe that this is nothing more than a kind gesture.

I don't want to see a single remake from Square Enix after Final Fantasy 7 Revelation

Once the Final Fantasy 7 Remake trilogy is complete, I'd love to see something new.
