GameStop announced that its price stickers, which have historically been difficult to peel off without permanent damage, will become much easier to remove in the future. GameStop claimed that the new price stickers would leave less adhesive residue on video game box covers compared to the outgoing ones.
Over the years, GameStop has been one of the most popular brick-and-mortar retailers for gamers to buy, sell, and trade various physical video games and accessories. GameStop also held trade-in events for customers to purchase refurbished consoles and games on various platforms at a discount. The rise of online retail has led to a sharp decline in GameStop's revenue over the past decade, resulting in store closures across the US. As part of its continued efforts to keep customers engaged, GameStop has revealed that a big change is coming to its retail locations.

It's officially the end of an era for GameStop
GameStop is ending one of its most popular and well-known perks that has been helping gamers around the world for years.
GameStop is finally making its price tags less annoying to remove
In a statement on Twitter on June 23, GameStop said it was changing its sticker designs effective immediately. More often than not, games and accessories sold at GameStop were usually marked with stickers that were unsightly and difficult to remove cleanly. In addition, stickers have also been placed on older ones due to price changes or multiple stores. GameStop also provided a screenshot as a point of comparison between the old and new stickers.
Copy Darksiders 2: Deathinitive Edition for Xbox 360 showed how much residue can be left on old stickers. On the other side, the sticker is placed on the copy Astro Bot showed how after peeling off the price tag from one of the corners, there was almost no residue left. Additionally, the price is now more prominently displayed on the new GameStop stickers. GameStop said the new stickers will be easier to lift at the corners, which should leave less sticker residue than before when removed. As part of the rollout of the stickers, GameStop is running a promotion where customers will receive up to 20% bonus trade-in credit on all games that are exchanged for a pre-order of any eligible new title released during 2026, such as Grand Theft Auto 6 or Marvel's Wolverine.
GameStop jokingly added that the level of glue on the outgoing sticker design was not part of the company's strategic vision for the future. Since sticker adhesive and other markings can potentially affect the price of some rare and collectible games, GameStop's sticker design change will ensure that future exchanges are not difficult to clean up. In response to GameStop's post, some users welcomed the change, while others questioned what took the store so long to update its stickers.

The sticker redesign comes amid a busy time for GameStop. GameStop CEO Ryan Cohen reportedly waived a $35 billion bonus payout as part of the company's ongoing effort to buy eBay, according to a June 23 investor report. The plan was originally revealed in January 2026, months before GameStop announced its plans. However, eBay rejected GameStop's buyout offer, saying the offer was “neither credible nor attractive” to the company.
