12 great manhwas that have rough beginnings
These manhwas may not make a great first impression, but it doesn't take long for them to take off and become something special.
This list shows seven isekai manhwa that have zero fanservice and focus more on their stories, the drama of being sent to another world, or just the development of characters as heroes, villains, and anti-heroes. Let's take a look at these great titles.
7
To hell with being a saint, I'm a doctor
For once a protagonist who wants to heal people, not build a harem
- Genres: Isekai, Action, Drama, High Fantasy, Martial Arts, Shounen
- Author: Goriff, Lorenzo
- Artist: Hamm
The best surgeon in Korea, known as The Hands of God, dies suddenly after being hit by a truck after a 72-hour shift. Instead of sending him to the afterlife, they decide to send him to a fantasy-like world, where he soon discovers that he, like his parents, is gifted with magic. However, the gods still have a plan for Ray, and when he turns 15, the Holy Kingdom sends a saint as an emissary to proclaim him as the new saint chosen by their deity: Gaia.
And so begins the story of Saint Ray, a saint who heals people using strange otherworldly techniques. It's a great story full of action, comedy, drama, and lots of interesting twists that spice up the plot and steer it as far away from fan service as possible.
6
The beginning after the end
Absolutely zero fan service, pure action and drama
- Genre: Isekai, Action, Drama
- Author: TurtleMe
- Artist: FUYUKI23
This manhwa series is all about redemption and finding a new place of peace after a lifetime of struggle. Sadly, the gods of this fantasy world have a twisted sense of humor and Arthur Leywyn, our protagonist who just wanted to have a peaceful life with his new family, ends up being a dog of war again.

Top 10 Manhwa Characters That Change
These manhwa stories have multiple protagonists that change the perspective of the story in interesting ways.
The series is set to be released as an anime soon, and fans couldn't be more excited at the prospect of it becoming widely popular. With incredible battle scenes, dramatic developments and non-stop action, there is little room for fanservice. Not that there isn't any romance. On the contrary, the protagonist falls in love with an elven princess, but ends up drifting apart for several reasons. It's more of a bittersweet tale of rebirth in a fantasy world, but it's definitely in keeping with the dark fantasy setting.
5
Barbarian of Soul Station
No room for fanservice here, just gallons and gallons of blood
- Genre: Action, Reverse Isekai, Urban Fantasy, Comedy, Drama, School Life
- Author: FACE
- Artists: Jin Seol Woo
There's no point in even discussing how this manhwa series is as far from fanservice as possible. A couple of sophomores are sent on an isekai trip, but one of them is not originally from Earth; he is secretly a barbarian from another world. Cheoungul reconnects with his “barbarian side” and goes on a rampage in this new scenario, killing everything and defeating anyone who stands between him and his goal: to become the strongest.
It's a good series and one of the few fantasy series that just started and is quickly gaining popularity among fans of the isekai genre. On the other hand, the characters are very well written and despite their overly dramatic attitudes, they actually pair up nicely and create a good combo. One wants to get stronger for selfish reasons, the other just wants to stay close to his friend and stop being a “burden”.
4
The Knight King who returned with God
A dark fantasy series with a brutal main character
- Genres: Dark Fantasy, Action, Comedy, Reverse Isekai
- Author: Salam Sally
- Artist: Hum Geomsa's Jeoncheon
The main character of this story wants only one thing: to kill all orcs, demons, heathens, heathens and cultists. He wants to kill every evil being in the universe, and his sole mission for over half a millennium has been to hunt these beings all over creation.
This series is a mixture of dark fantasy, action and comedy, and there is not even the slightest room for fan service in the plot. With battle after battle, the story of the Holy Grail King as he searches for a way to turn a bunch of “mere earthlings” into true Grail Knights is intense and dramatic.
3
The Return spell should be special
It has some hints of a romantic comedy, but nothing as involved as fanservice
- Genres: Isekai, Sword and Sorcery, School Drama
- Author: Wookjakga
- Artist: Usonan
The dramatic story of Desire Arman, a hero from an alternate timeline who returns to a point in his past to fix the world before darkness engulfs him forever, is both compelling and heartwarming. Unlike many isekai manhwas that focus on the relationship between women and a single male protagonist, Desir gathers colorful allies to work alongside him for a better future.

Tired of typical isekai manga food? These streaks are more than just unusual; they are the weirdest and most absurd isekai manga available today.
If there's any doubt as to why this story doesn't have an iota of fanservice, the very conclusion of the manhwa series speaks volumes for how the author thinks about romance and happily ever after. Definitely worth a read for anyone who likes a good isekai with a fantasy theme, without the silly tropes.
2
Solo Alignment: Ragnarok
Sequel to Legends
- Genres: Reverse Isekai, Action, Drama, Urban Fantasy, Dark Fantasy, Shounen
- Author: Dang Do
- Artist: JIN (RedDice Studio)
Sung Su-ho, the son of Sung Jin-woo and Chae Hae-jin, is trying to adapt to the modern world. His parents are nowhere to be seen, instead focused on the battle against the space forces, and he is left all alone in Korea. That is, until the fateful day when a mysterious being tries to murder him.
Luckily, he wakes up just in time to beat the hell out of it, waking up with Beru, the Dark Monarch's fated servant, standing by his side. Afterwards, Beru explains that he is the target of his attack, and if he wants to survive long enough to help his father in the coming battles, he will need to become stronger. It is a direct sequel solo alignment, and like its predecessor, this reverse isekai manhwa doesn't have an iota of fanservice.
1
Druid Station in Seoul
One of the meanest Isekais you'll see
- Genres: Action adventure, fantasy, science fiction
- Author: Jin Sol U
- Artist: Moon Sung-Ho, liveBear
The anti-hero of this story is a brutal archdruid who spent more than 1000 years isolated in the animal world, where he learned the laws of the jungle by force and became the supreme predator and ruler of all creatures there. As such, he is more interested in helping his beasts than those who share his species.
This manhwa has little room for fanservice, and only one chapter has anything like that before the main character outright dismisses the idea of dealing with more situations like this. So you'll find almost zero lazy writing here, just pure action, drama, and a brutal beast lord trying to change the world. For better or for worse? We don't know that.
