All Metal Alchemist is a world built on the law of equivalent exchange, and there is nothing that tests this basic principle more than the Homunculi. These artificial humans are the physical embodiment of the Seven Sins of the Father and are the main antagonists who pull Amestris' strings from the shadows. Their strange, supernatural powers, at odds with the Elric brothers, provide some of the most physically and emotionally demanding scenes of the entire series.
Although almost all members of this supposedly “evil” family are gifted with terrifying regenerative powers and otherworldly powers, they are unequal in strength. Some of these are based on brute strength and sheer stamina, while others utilize reality-bending shadows or absolute mastery of human combat abilities. Their chart shows the intricate order of the Father's creation with a god-like creature who tried to swallow the sun itself and transcend humanity forever.
What are Homunculi?
A byproduct of the Philosopher's Stone spirit, Homunculi are unnatural creatures created by the one called the Father. They are all literal fragments of his soul, discarded to cleanse him of human sins such as greed or lust. Powered by thousands of human souls, they can regenerate from almost any wound as long as their core – the Stone – has energy, making them virtually immortal. They are the ultimate alchemical taboo given by flesh and blood.

Lust
Called the Ultimate Spear, Lust is surprisingly limited despite its deadly accuracy. The deadliest yet most predictable weapon she has is her claws, which extend to pierce through anything. She is an expert in shadows and intrigue, but lacks the defensive abilities of her older, stronger siblings or the size that makes them so deadly.
Using a melee stab exposes her to area-of-effect attacks. Roy Mustang has proven that even though she can regenerate, she has certain limits when faced with continuous fire. He has no second combat cheat, making him the most common high-death threat, but the least overall versatility of the Seven Sins.
7
Gluttony
Gluttony looks like a simple-minded beast, but his “False Gate of Truth” makes him a terrifying eccentric. In its standard form, it is a ferocious stalker with an impressive bite, but its real danger comes when its stomach opens. This void is able to absorb anything it comes across and remove matter.
But his weakness is his stupidity. He is easy to control and sometimes uses his siblings to guide him in his hunger. His attack ceiling is simply astronomical, but he's slow and predictable, making it easy for experienced fighters to beat. He is the literal definition of a glass cannon.
6
Envy
Envy is a master of disguise and psychological warfare, using shapeshifting to sneak into them and win fights from within. In battle, they can also transform into a huge, multi-limbed creature that consists of the spirits in their stone. This true form provides immense physical strength and a terrifying size advantage, giving them the ability to defeat masses but lose speed and become an easier target. This is shown in their fight against Roy, where Envy even mocks him saying that it's easier for him to target them now.

Easy (120s) Medium (90s) Hard (60s)
This brute force doesn't mean much; envy's true self is a small, helpless parasite. They are also notorious for emotional outbursts and arrogance that cause tactical errors. When stripped of their giant form, they have no real means of defense left. They are strong through guile rather than mere fighting prowess.
5
Sloth
Sloth is the physically strongest and most durable of the children, designed to do the hard work of digging a nationwide transmutation ring. He appears to be slow and stupid, but is actually the fastest of the Homunculus when he wants to be, which is quite ironic considering he's a sloth. His super speed turns his massive body into an invincible, bone-shattering ram.
Ironically, he's too lazy to push forward and tends to miss the mark entirely. Having no sense of tactics, no sophisticated skills, he can be exhausted by teamwork and tricks in the field. He's a giant of pure, raw stats, but he's not a tactical fighter.
4
Greed
The only sin that still remains with the true soul. Greed has the Ultimate Shield, or rather the power to reorganize the carbon in his body to form diamond-hard skin. This makes him nearly invulnerable to physical damage and allows him to transform parts of his own body into blades that are unbreakable. He later joined Ling Yao to learn martial arts.
His ability to strategize and his perfect defense make him a matchup nightmare. However, his shield has one flaw: It takes a moment of concentration to work, and it can be compromised by alchemy that alters the structure of the carbon. Although he is very hard to kill, he is not as formidable as the other sins.
3
Anger
King Bradley stands out as a man-made Homunculus that cannot regenerate, but is perhaps the most dangerous up close. His “Ultimate Eye” allows him to predict every movement and trajectory of a bullet. This insight, combined with inhuman speed and skill with the sword, allows him to tear entire armies to pieces.
It is the only sin that can truly put elite alchemists to the test with sheer talent. Although he is not immortal, the nature of his offense is so over the top that his opponents can hardly hurt him. The only thing that makes him weaker than Pride in the hierarchy is that his mortality is a limited resource; there comes a point where his old body is no match.
2
Pride
Pride is the first creation of the father and the strongest of his children, living in the body of a small boy to hide his appearance. He commands a huge many-eyed shadow that can spread across cities and swallow anything it comes in contact with. These shadows cannot be destroyed and can absorb other creatures to resemble them.
His range and versatility are unmatched as he can strike from any darkness. His only real weakness is complete light or complete darkness, which momentarily breaks his bond to his shadows. Despite this, his ability to devour his siblings is proof that he is the ultimate offspring of his father.
1
Father
The Father is the source of all alchemy in Amestris and the origin of all other Homunculi. At first he was just a “dwarf in a flask”, but later he attained human form and tried to rise above existence. His power is practically inexhaustible and he can easily create matter and manipulate energy.
When he was at his best, he literally opened the gate of truth with his bare hands and temporarily absorbed God and had power over the matter of reality and could create the sun with the palm of his hand. It is not a character, but a kind of nature. Although he was later overwhelmed, it was only through the concerted efforts of the entire nation that he was driven back and finally defeated.
