Arguably the most exciting part of any game in the Pokemon series is catching a super rare and very powerful Legendary Pokemon. Pokemon Legends: ZA is no exception to this hype. However, unlike previous titles, you'll have to play through the entire game before you can finally get your hands on even one.
These legendaries aren't funny either, requiring you to complete a set of small tasks before being thrown into a grueling battle against time. Like alpha Pokémon, legendary Pokémon have little room for error. You'll need all the practice and precision you've gained along the way to catch them all.
How to start searching for legendary Pokemon
Legendary Pokemon are locked to post-game content. They have much higher base stats than normal Pokemon and are shiny locked (ie you can't catch their shiny shapes).
There are only three legendaries you can catch:
you will have to complete all main missions until you unlock the credits sequence. That said, all of the content below will contain major spoilers, so consider it yours:
Spoiler alert!!!
Floette AZ it's not a legendary Pokemon, but it's shiny and can only be caught once. We've added a section for its unique acquisition as a special Pokemon.
Once you have enough credits, you need to start Main Quest 39: The Infinite ZA Royale. Once you have completed a single bounty match against the infamous taxi driver you will receive a phone call asking for it return to Hotel Z.
When you enter the door, a cutscene will play leading to activation of legendary quests:
-
He Who Gives (Xerneas)
-
The One Who Takes (Yveltal)
You can take these quests in any order, but you will have to complete both before you have a chance to challenge the final secret boss and catch Zygarde.
The Giver: How to catch Xernease
Your quest to capture Xernease begins with a visit Pokemon Research Lab. Talk to Mable and she will give you a quest Defeat three unique alpha Pokemon in the following zones:
-
Zone 3: Steelix
-
Zone 5: Gallade
-
Zone 9: Pangoro
You can defeat or capture all three of these alphas. Regardless, they must be removed from their wild range in some way to count.
Return to Mable and she will alert you to a strange presence inside Zone 11 (the one with all the horrible stunfisk). Go down to the grassy area to south coastand you can Investigate for Xerneas to appear.

This is a combat scenario where you will have to catch Xernease. Although it is it is impossible to fail to capture it (as Xerneas thankfully reappears afterwards), recommended saving from Xerneas refresh for good stats.
The Taker: How to Catch Yveltal
Once this main mission is active, you should visit Café Nouveau. When you get close, you'll get a cutscene where you talk to Griselle and Grisham. Your dialogue choices don't matter here, so exhaust the dialogue until they are mentioned Quasartico Inc.
At Quasartico Inc. approaching Vinnie will trigger another cutscene, after which you'll unlock an option rechallenge simulation he used to fight Rogue Mega Pokemon. you will have to beat three unlock Yveltal:
-
Tyranitar
-
Victreebel
-
Hawlucha
Each of them will be an improved version of their older selves, appearing at level 70. You won't even see your old colleagues from MZ.
Once you're done with your nostalgic battles, you'll get a notification that Yveltal is approaching. Therefore, head to Rouge District Shopping Center: Galleria de la Lune.
Yveltal will on the roof gallery that requires you to climb to the roof via scaffolding on the northwest side gallery (near zone 3). Once at the top, you must use your Rotom Glide get to the top of the dome structure and Investigate in the center.

Like Xerneas, you can't help but catch Yveltal. However, we still recommend saving if you want to reset for better stats.
How to catch Zygarde
Once you've caught both Xernease and Yveltal, you'll have all the requirements to catch Zygarde. However, unlike all the previous major events, there are no main mission instructions to point you in the right direction. You can without prompting return to Hotel Z after catching both legends to trigger L's arrival.
When L appears, appears challenge you to battle. He's the strongest trainer you'll face in Legends: ZA, so you should bring your best Pokemon. His team is like this:

Once you defeat L, Zygarde will appear and give you your final mission, Main Mission 42: To Keep The World In Balance. This will prompt you follow him to zone 20.
Zygarde will wait for you under the remains of Prism Tower. Here you will have your final pokemon boss battle against Zygarde herself and she will appear as Level 84 v three phases:
-
10 percent
-
50 percent
-
Fill out the form
Fortunately, Zygarde is very easy to counter weaknesses against dragon and fairy aa 4x weakness to Ice. The biggest threat it poses is large area attacks during the Complete Form phase.
We recommend purchasing a Green Canary Plush at level one or two to be safe in case of an accident during the Complete Form phase. Resetting can be time consuming and frustrating due to a small dodging error.
Once Zygarde's final form is defeated in battle, you'll get a chance throw a Poke Ball at him. This ball will always be successful, so throw one that you think would make Zygarde look cool.
When Zygarde is captured, L will welcome you again to give you Zygarde Cube. This will allow Zygarde to change forms during battle. Of course you already have Zygarditeso you'll have everything you need for your newest team member.
How to get the AZ fleet
AZ's Floette (also known as Eternal Flower Floette) may not be a legendary Pokemon, but it sure is special. You can only get one per saved fileand the means to finally get it are relatively time- and energy-consuming.
To unlock the right to get Floette AZ, you must take on Infinite Royale. Not once, not twice, but 15 times. This means:
-
Earn 50,000 points for a Challenger's Ticket
-
Defeat a random opponent in a Reward Match
-
Complete 14 matches for a reward
We recommend grinding nights, but keep an eye on your card points. By holding off on completely clearing certain cards halfway through, like 20,000 point cards, you can collect enough for a Challenge Ticket, do a Reward Match, and come back the same night to quickly clear a second, and possibly third, Challenge Ticket in the same cycle. We did this and managed to clear all 15 bounty matches in eight nights instead of 14.
On your 15th reward match, you will have to face your rival as your opponent. This time your opponent will appear with a Pokemon around level 70.

After defeating your opponent, return to Quasartico Inc.. Entering the building triggers a long cutscene that answers questions about your opponent's past, but – more importantly – also rewards you with both. Floette AZ and Floettite for his Mega Evolution.
