Tanjiro & Nezuko Vs. Swamp Demon

This Brother-Sister Duo’s First Real Test

  • Duration: Chapters 10 to 13 (Manga), Episodes 6 and 7 (Anime)

The early battle between Tanjiro and Nezuko Kamado and the Swamp Demon was extremely important for both the main characters and their story, seeing as this was the first time they got the chance to fully display their newfound strength and teamwork. Of course, they had both previously fought a weaker demon at a mountain temple, but this was the first time they had to deal with a Blood Demon Art, not to mention that it was one of the trickier ones.

The Swamp Demon could not only generate three clone replicas of himself, but he could also make them traverse through a swamp-like dimension where they could trap their victims. Despite these bizarre powers, seeing Tanjiro and Nezuko fighting together to overcome this enemy was incredibly satisfying and the first hint of how important their sibling bond was going to be throughout the rest of the story.

Demon Slayers Vs. Muzan Kibutsuji

Everybody Joined Forces For The Climactic Final Battle

  • Duration: Chapters 180 to 200 (Manga)

After all of Muzan Kibutsuji’s minions were defeated, the Infinity Castle Arc concluded with an epic and unbelievable final battle in which all the remaining demon slayers joined forces to take down the main antagonist of the series. Needless to say, seeing beloved characters like Tanjiro, Zenitsu, Inosuke, Kanao, Giyu, Mitsuri, Obanai, Gyomei, and Sanemi working together was a full-on spectacle, and it felt like a fulfilling reward for longtime fans.

Needless to say, this was never going to be an easy task, seeing as Muzan’s powerful final form allowed him to single-handedly take care of multiple opponents at the same time, mainly thanks to his deadly tentacle whips. But the most memorable and inspirational part of this battle took place outside the infamous castle, when the entire Demon Slayer Corps (including low-tier slayers that weren’t on the same level as the Hashira) worked together to destroy Muzan’s baby-like form and force him to face the sunlight.

Tanjiro & Giyu Vs. Akaza

The Main Character Fought A Powerful Enemy Alongside His Role Model

  • Duration: Chapters 146 to 156 (Manga)

From the moment Giyu Tomioka saved Tanjiro at the beginning of the series, he reluctantly became a sort of role model/mentor for the main character. While they briefly fought Rui together during the Mount Natagumo Arc, they finally got the chance to work as a true team of almost equal strength during the Infinity Castle Arc, in which they both faced Akaza. To make things even more intense, this was the demon responsible for the death of Kyojuro Rengoku, who was also one of Tanjiro’s role models, even if it was for a brief moment.

The Demon Slayer anime is renowned for its exceptional animation, and nowhere is that more apparent than in the action on display in these story arcs.

Witnessing Tanjiro and Giyu fighting together with their shared knowledge and mastery of the Water Breathing Style was incredibly epic and satisfying, especially after Tomioka unlocked his Demon Slayer Mark and Tanjiro developed the Transparent World ability, both of which gave them a significant advantage in battle. Despite the violent nature of this encounter, Akaza’s self-inflicted death was surprisingly emotional, especially after readers got to witness his tragic backstory.

Kanao & Inosuke Vs. Doma

Two Unexpected Allies Taking Revenge Against A Common Enemy

  • Duration: Chapters 157 to 162 (Manga)

Kanao Tsuyuri and Inosuke Hashibira are two completely different characters who barely interacted, so it seemed like they were not going to work well together at all. However, they were able to put their differences aside to face a common enemy: Doma, an evil and egotistical demon who had not only captured and murdered Inosuke’s mother when he was a child but who had also killed Kanao’s master, Shinobu Kocho, just a few minutes before this encounter. Because of these specific circumstances, both young warriors teamed up to take revenge on him.

Doma’s Blood Demon Art allowed him to generate and manipulate ice, which resulted in some of the most powerful moves (and some of the most beautiful illustrations) in the entire series but, fortunately, Kanao and Inosuke were able to put up a great fight by using their signature breathing styles (Flower and Beast, respectively). Lastly, the scene in which Kanao used her brand-new Equinoctial Vermilion Eye in combination with Inosuke’s gruesome Sudden Throwing Strike to successfully decapitate Doma was not only a perfect showcase of their effective teamwork but also a legendary and rewarding final sequence.

4

Tanjiro, Nezuko, And Giyu Vs. Rui

A Battle So Majestic It Changed The Series’ Reputation

  • Duration: Chapters 37 to 42 (Manga), Episodes 18 to 20 (Anime)

There’s no denying that the Mount Natagumo Arc (also known as the Spider Family Arc) was a major game-changer for the series’ reputation, mainly because it featured one of its most memorable and exciting battles. The showdown between Tanjiro and Kezuko against the head of the spider family, Rui, was incredibly intense, since his Blood Demon Art allowed him to create and manipulate thin, sharp strings that were very hard to deal with.

Naturally, the Kamado siblings tried to put their solid teamwork to good use, but Rui took advantage of that by capturing Nezuko and threatening that he was going to kill her. But, of course, this team fight is fondly remembered by many because it’s the precise moment in which the Kamado siblings gained brand-new power-ups: first Nezuko unlocks her Blood Demon Art, simply named Exploding Blood, and then Tanjiro remembers how to use Sun Breathing Style, which the anime adaptation turned into one of the most beautiful, emotional and awe-inspiring sequences in the entire industry. Sadly, Tanjiro’s final attack was not enough to fully kill the spider demon, which is why Giyu appeared at the last second and defeated him with his majestic Dead Calm technique.

3

Tanjiro, Nezuko, Genya, And Mitsuri Vs. Hantengu

Multiple Demon Slayers Fighting A Strong Demon With Multiple Bodies

  • Duration: Chapters 106 to 126 (Manga), Episodes 47 to 55 (Anime)

Upper Rank Four of the Twelve Kizuki, Hantengu, was such a powerful and durable demon that it took the combined efforts of four different characters to take him down, and they still had a difficult time doing so, despite their numerical advantage. This, of course, can be mainly attributed to Hantengu’s Blood Demon Art, which allows him to split himself into six different bodies, and each one embodies one of his primal emotions.

The Infinity Castle is considered one of the best arcw in the Demon Slayer manga. Here are the fights fans are anticipating in its anime adaptation.

These demonic replicas were incredibly powerful, and their combined power made the battle even more intense and violent, which explains why Tanjiro, Nezuko, and Genya had such a tough time fighting one by one. Even the arrival of the Love Hashira, Mitsuri Kanroji, was not enough to turn the tide of battle, because Hantengu made her fight against his most powerful form, Zohakuten. Nevertheless, this was an over-the-top and thrilling team-up fight that concluded with a beautiful sequence in which Tanjiro was able to decapitate Hantengu with the assistance of his friends and, to make things even better, Nezuko finally managed to conquer the sun.

Tanjiro, Inosuke, Zenitsu, Tengen, Suma, Makio, Hinatsuru, And Nezuko Vs. Daki And Gyutaro

The Entertainment District Arc Concluded With A Legendary All-Out Battle

  • Duration: Chapters 76 to 94 (Manga), Episodes 37 to 43 (Anime)

Eight people! That’s the total number of characters that were needed to defeat the deadly brother-sister duo of Daki and Gyutaro, which perfectly reflects how serious and dangerous the story was becoming after the introduction of the Upper Ranks of the Twelve Kizuki. Daki’s Obi Sash Manipulation allowed her to cover a large area and attack her targets from a long distance, while Gyutaro’s Poison Slashes allowed him to shorten the lives of his enemies with every passing second.

Due to these complex supernatural powers, it should be no surprise that this battle required the combined strength and abilities of Tanjiro, Zenitsu, Inosuke, and the Sound Hashira, Tengen Uzui, with Nezuko, Suma, Makio, and Hinatsuru assisting them on the side. The entire fight was a collection of incredible attacks and impressive abilities, but the most memorable part was its conclusion: the final scene in which Tanjiro and Tengen decapitate Gyutaro while Inosuke and Zenitsu decapitate Daki was nothing short of extraordinary and, as always, Ufotable turned it into one of the best animated sequences in the entire anime adaptation.

1

Muichiro, Gyomei, Sanemi, And Genya Vs. Kokushibo

Three Hashiras And A Strong Slayer Against One Of The Series’ Most Powerful Demons

  • Duration: Chapters 165 to 176 (Manga)

The Infinity Castle Arc is filled to the brim with memorable and exciting battles, most of which involve Tanjiro and his friends. However, there’s one specific team fight that most fans consider to be the absolute best one in the series, and it’s the long confrontation between Muichiro Tokito, Gyomei Himejima, Sanemi Shinazugawa, and Genya Shinazugawa against Upper Rank One, Kokushibo. For starters, this demon can wield the infamous Moon Breathing Style, meaning that he’s basically a powerful human-like being with the same level of skill and strength as a Hashira.

This perfectly explains why it took the combined efforts of three different Hashira (and one strong demon slayer) to take him down, and yet they almost failed to do so. Seeing Muichiro, Gyomei, and Sanemi going all-out and unleashing some of their strongest techniques together was incredibly satisfying and a flawless reflection of how skilled and powerful they were. Even Genya got his chance to shine, even though he was tragically killed by Kokushibo, which resulted in a heartbreaking death scene with his older brother. This is undoubtedly one of the best-written and choreographed action sequences in Demon Slayer, and it will definitely look even better when Ufotable adapts it in the upcoming Infinity Castle movie trilogy.
