The Border the series has always prided itself on player expression, giving players plenty of avenues to take when it comes to customizing their style. While weapons have always played a big role in making this happen, players have also been able to change their character's skin and head for most of the series – from Borderlands 2to be precise. Over time, this system became more and more complex Borderlands 4 offers the most depth by allowing players to change the head, body and style of their vault hunters. While many of these customization options can be earned by completing in-game missions and challenges, BorderThe SHiFT system also plays a part in this, allowing players to unlock new skins for their vault hunters simply by entering SHiFT codes.
Since launch Borderlands 4players have already obtained unique skins for the in-game vault hunters through free SHiFT codes to unlock them. Like Borderlands 4 player base completes community challenges, Gearbox reveals a SHiFT code that unlocks a new skin for the playable character the challenge was associated with. At this point, Vex, Amon, and Rafa have all received new skins via SHiFT codes, each based on short characters released prior to the game's launch. While free skins are great, they have proven to be playing things a bit too safe, offering only minimal cosmetic changes. However, since Harlowe's SHiFT look hasn't been released yet, there's still a chance Borderlands 4 offer something truly unique.
Skins SHiFT Borderlands 4 played things too safe
When Rafa's SHiFT look was released – inspired by his brief character YOLT – it didn't come with too much friction because Borderlands 4 already allows players to choose whether their Rafa will wear his mask. However, when Amon's Cult Classic skin arrived not long after, a trend began to emerge. In this case, while Amon players received a Vault Hunter body style based on his own short figure, his head was left intact, leaving his unique shorts hairstyle out of the picture. Then came Vex's Mass Market Appeal outfit, inspired by her brief character “Purple Friday”, but it wasn't the outfit from the video at all and instead turned out to be nothing more than a different color scheme.
-
Rafa “Saving Savior” SHiFT code: TZXT3-XJXCB-CXBJW-BTTJT-9SK6B
-
Amon “Cult Classic” SHiFT code: JZ6BJ-SBR5J-WF3BK-BT3BB-TX9HB
-
Vex “Mass Market Appeal” SHiFT Code: BZ6JJ-CB6CT-WXJJW-3TT3B-56FZ5
So while Rafa's unique SHiFT skin flew a bit under the radar, Amon and Vex weren't so lucky. Instead of actually showing off the shorts, they were only blessed with the colors they wore. However, it would be nice if each character's SHiFT skin included a new head, body, and style for players to use instead of just a style.
Harlowe's Unrevealed SHiFT Skin could solve the problem
With Harlowe being the only one Borderlands 4 Vault Hunter left to get her own unique SHiFT look, Gearbox has a chance to change the story. While her appearance in her short form would only justify adding style, her SHiFT skin could still go beyond her Traunt line. A proper Traunt-inspired design—complete with floating armor shards, a glowing halo, and kinetic energy effects—would instantly set her apart from the rest of the roster. Unfortunately given Borderlands 4's current SHiFT trends, it seems more likely that it will just be a different style.
