Key things
- Capcom is asking fans if they want similar remakes like Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster for series like Devil May Cry, Dino Crisis and Okami.
- Many of these are similarly long-dormant games, so there's a glimmer of hope that Capcom will dig deep into its back catalog and bring back more than just Frank West.
Dead Rising made its long-awaited comeback last week with the Deluxe Remaster, sending us back to the zombie-infested Willamette Parkview Mall after 18 years. But Capcom is already looking to the future, asking fans in a new survey what other games they'd like to see get the DRDR treatment.
While DRDR runs on the new RE Engine, Capcom doesn't consider it a remake. So these games would be 1:1 “remasters” with a fresh coat of paint, rather than Resident Evil-like remakes.
At the top of the list is Dino Crisis, which Capcom revealed earlier this year was among the most requested series to return. However, creator Shinji Mikami believes there is “no room” for the game because of… Monster Hunter. Regardless, Capcom is still gauging interest in the survival horror classic, but among this survey list are some other incredibly popular games;
- Dino Crisis
- The lost planet
- Devil May Cry
- Stone of power
- Resident Evil
- Onimusha
- Darkstalkers
- Eyes
More faithful remakes (sorry, remasters) of classic Resident Evil games is certainly an interesting idea; we had reimaginations 2, 3 and 4 but keeping the tank controls of the classics with modern quality of life features in a new engine a la DRDR would be a great way to let people experience the originals in the modern day.
Alternatively, we could see Resident Evil 0 and Code Veronica sped up. But we had pool from Resident Evil so I'm sure DMC, Okami and others on this list would be more popular choices. One of our executive editors, Jade King, even wrote about how much we need a reboot of Onimushatwo years before – ahead of the curve, huh?
Take it with a grain of salt
Capcom has been asking fans about the return of Dino Crisis for years, so don't take this as a guarantee that it will happen. But Dead Rising appeared in many of these surveys, so it's at least a glimmer of hope that Capcom's long-dormant games won't be stuck in the dust forever.
We also don't yet know how well the Deluxe Remaster is doing, which will no doubt have an impact on whether or not Capcom continues to make similar remakes. Time will tell, but if you want to join the chorus of fans clamoring for these games to finally come back and get some more time in the sun, you can fill out the survey here.
