Disagreement right now

[Update 5/8: As of 2:07 PM PST, Discord appears to be back up and running normally. The original story follows.]

Contention is currently unavailable to the millions of users who regularly use its online messaging services. The social platform that allows people around the world to communicate via text, voice and video has been around since 2015 and has become a popular service for a huge number of people in that time. As of 2026, Discord boasts nearly 260 million monthly active users and more than double the number of registered users, with an estimated 37 percent of 18- to 34-year-olds actively using the platform.

To keep up with the huge number of users each month, Discord has more than 32 million servers located around the world. Its services are available on a variety of platforms, including web browsers and standalone apps for Windows, macOS, Android, iOS, and even Linux. In the gaming space, it's the perfect place to meet like-minded people who are passionate about the same titles and developers. It serves as an active place to build communities, make friends and communicate easily while playing.

Discord's CTO Announces Delay in Age Verification Measures

'We want to get it right' Discord delays rollout of controversial age verification

Days before Discord was set to begin enforcing its divisive age verification measures globally, the company is announcing a delay due to user backlash.

Discord server status

At the time of this writing, the Discord servers are down. Attempting to access the service in a web browser results in an error screen that simply says, “Something went wrong!” The official app on various platforms simply loads with an API error message and the statement: “We are continuing to fix issues affecting accessibility for some Discord users.” Some users report that the regular interface loads after a few minutes of waiting, but switching to other servers is cumbersome and tedious.

We will update this article once Discord services are fully restored.
