RE9: Leon must die forever, he explained

Leon Must Die Forever is the brand new (and free) rougelike DLC added to Resident Evil Requiem, and here's everything you need to know.

Use remaining challenge points for upgrades

New special content specifically for LMDF helps with every run

Use remaining challenge points for upgrades

  • Med Injectors & Green Herbs can be added to your inventory at the start of each run.

If you've earned a few Challenge Points while playing the main story, you might have some leftovers that could come in handy when playing Leon Must Die Forever. specifically Special content like Green Herb and Med Injector will ensure you start each playthrough with more healing items.

There are other bonuses that CP can be exchanged for, such as ability boosts, but these only come into play if you find an enhanced ability related to said special content. So buying fresh medicinals is a great way to stay healthy and make sure one mistake doesn't mean death.

Save your ammo and shoot your leg

Legshots allow you to kick zombies to deal more damage without wasting bullets

  • Aim for the leg and you can stun zombies, allowing you to kick them and perform finishers.

Zombies are pretty good at tanking headshots, probably because there isn't much activity in their brains anyway. As such, aiming for the head is only a good idea when using a rifle. For pistols that you need to have more ammo in, you should aim for the leg.

If you shoot a zombie in the leg, you'll see them drop to one knee, and when you're stunned, you can press X/A on them to knock them down, dealing more damage than a headshot. This can also stun other zombies that the zombie kicks, and the damage is nice for the cost of one bullet instead of several to the head.

Plan your route

Safety over efficiency, always

  • He rushes to Lv. 20 is an easy way to die, so be sure to check the map to see where you can go next.

Leon Must Die Forever does something interesting where each stage has a difficulty level, meaning the higher the level, the more health and damage the enemy deals. Before facing the final boss, you'll want to do as many stages as possible to get loot and power-ups:

Level

Phase

Lv. 1

Main street

Lv. 5

Care center

Lv. 9

East Raccoon City: Central Camp

Lv. 10

Blister Borne

Lv. 20

Winner

You can check the in-game map to see where your next red door will take you. Some doors will lead you directly to the final boss, while others will take you to the next stage. It's always recommended to do as many stages as possible to maximize your abilities and weapons, as going to the boss so early is a death sentence.

Know how to defeat red and blue enemies

Bullets aren't always the answer to some enemy types

  • Blue enemies need to be parried with the ax to deal more damage.

  • Red enemies are immune to gunfire, so use melee attacks and grenades.

Leon Must Die Forever features the usual suspects, but there are a few added enemy variants that have blue and red auras. Each of these enemy types has a unique buff that can prevent you from winning, or is another way to waste time and resources.

When you meet red enemies, you have to use melee attacks and grenades cause harm. When you meet blue enemies, you have to repel them so that they are weakened and able to take more bullet damage. Knowing how to defeat these types of enemies will save you time and ammo.

Find and shoot Midas Spinners

Gold spiders reward more seconds on the timer

Find and shoot Midas Spinners

  • Midas Spinners increase your remaining time, so finding and shooting them is a priority.

Midas Spinners are small golden spiders that often hide in corners and are just out of sight. While you shouldn't waste your time hunting these little arachnids, you should make them a priority when you catch one in your peripheral vision.

Midas Spinners will increase your allotted timebasically making sure you have more time on the clock before the game is over. They're rarely out of the way, only take one bullet to destroy, and can add over a minute to your in-game timer.

Loot Like There's No Tomorrow

Don't worry about the timer, focus on looting weapons and ammo

  • Check crates for weapons, loot dead zombies, and crates for ammo and healing items.

While you're racing against time, staying alive is just as important as being late to the finish line (although being late to the finish line here means you die and have to start over). While you should focus on your time, you should also focus on looting.

Defeated enemies almost always drop ammo, and weapon crates are scattered around the map to give you a random arsenal.. Just like in the main story, Green Herbs and Med Injectors will save your life, so loot and hoard items to use later in the run to save your life.

Consider each Enhancer's ability before you go

Enhancement abilities are randomly distributed among a choice of three

  • Power-ups are activated with L1+Triangle after killing enough zombies and allow you to choose 1 of 3 power-ups that can boost your game.

Power-ups are unique to Leon Must Die Forever and are earned simply by gaining scores by defeating enemies and clearing stages. When you have enough points you can press L1+Triangle to enter the Power Up menu which gives you 3 power up options but you can only choose one.

Your Enhancer abilities are completely random, so you won't have the same one every time you run. However, there are a few key ones to watch out for, so read up on each Enhancer ability before choosing. For one of our runs, we had the ability to set zombies on fire when we kicked themwhich almost immediately killed them all.

Avoid Hatchet Combat unless necessary

The ax cannot be sharpened manually

The Hatchet is one of Leon's most trusted weapons, but not anymore. In Leon Must Die Forever, the Hatchet has a limited lifespan and you cannot repair it manually like in the main story. As such, you should use it sparingly.

The Hatchet must be reserved for necessary parrying to avoid losing health, and should mainly be kept safe until you reach the boss fight (where parrying can mean the difference between life and death). Don't worry, you can still use Hatchet as fixing resistance requires you to find a green ax while exploring.
