Every game for free in the Epic Games Store holiday sale

Epic gives away free games through its online store all year round, but kicks things up a notch during the holidays. Instead of giving away one or two games a week during the 2023 holiday season Epic gave away a total of 17 games. It started its holiday promotion with a weekly giveaway and then went on to offer a free game every day for over two weeks.

December 24 – 25: Dredging

3.0/5

Dredge

Captain your own fishing boat in Dredge, out on the water during the day so you can sell your catch once the day is over. There's more than completion waiting for you beneath the waves.

It's Christmas Day, or maybe even Christmas Eve depending on when you're reading this, and Epic has saved a big one for one of the most important days of its holiday lineup – Dredge. An indie hit reaching a level of recognition most indie games can only dream of when it releases in 2023, and now you can download it for free if you saw it in time. Take to the virtual sea, bring in famous catches and uncover the mysteries hidden beneath the waves, sell what you find and do it all again the next night. It's so much more than what I'm making it out to be, and a game you absolutely need to check out if you haven't already.

Dredge will be free to pick up until Wednesday, December 25th, 2024 at 11:00 AM EST, when it will be replaced by another free game in Epic's holiday offer.

December 23 – 24: Dark And Darker – Legendary Status

mixcollage-07-dec-2024-12-07-am-1388.jpg

Dark And Darker is a battle royale game with a twist. It takes place in a dungeon and mixes elements of games like Escape from Tarkov with D&D and roguelikes.

It's been a big and complicated year for the developers of Dark And Darker. Ironmace saw its game removed from Steam after Nexon accused the studio, which includes developers who previously worked at Nexon, of stealing assets for the game. A new dawn came when Dark And Darker launched on the Epic Games Store in March, and you can now claim it for free with Legendary Status. With Legendary Status, you'll gain access to High Roller Dungeons, eight additional character slots, and more as you embark on a brand new quest with absolutely no money.

December 22-23: Wizard Of Legend

Wizard of legends

Wizard of Legend is a fast-paced dungeon crawler with rogue-like elements that emphasizes dynamic magical combat. Moving fast and using spells even faster allows you to chain spells together and unleash devastating combos against your enemies!

Wizard Of Legend has arrived to bring some old school pixel roguelike fun to Epic's ongoing holiday event. Like all the games – except Return To Moria – that came before it, Wizard Of Legend is free to pick up for 24 hours, but it's up to you to keep it after you claim it. Work your way through ten stories of challenges and enemies in this fantastic top-down roguelike and learn new spells and skills every time you reach a new level. It's one of those games where you say “One more round” and before you know it, it's Christmas morning and everyone is on their way down to start the festivities.

December 21-22: TerraTech

TerraTech

TerraTech is an open world sandbox adventure where you design and build your own creations through a combination of crafting, combat and exploration. Design cars, tanks and planes from a huge library of blocks. Scavenge, craft and buy new parts to survive and become the best planetary prospector.

Fourth Day of Giveaways, Epic Games for Me – TerraTech. Of all the games being given away this year, TerraTech is the one most likely to take up all your free time this Christmas season. It takes place in an open world sandbox where you build your stuff and shoot. Even the vehicles you use are custom built from the game's blocks. Traverse its vast world, crafting as you go and engaging in battles with others you encounter. A game that will keep you entertained for hours if you let it, and it's free if you get it now.

December 20-21: Astrea: Six-Sided Oracles

mixcollage-20-nov-2024-04-24-am-4550.jpg

Astrea: The six-sided seer

Astrea is a DICE deck building roguelike that flips the script on deckbuilders by using dice instead of cards and a unique dual “damage” system: Purification vs Corruption. Build a cube block strong enough to clean up Astrea's out-of-control corruption and save the Star System.

Day three of the Epic holiday and deck builders rejoice because today is your day. Astrea: Six-Sided Oracles is today's free game, and all you have to do to claim, download and try it out is head over to its store page via the link in the box above. While it is a deckbuilder, Astrea turns the genre on its head by replacing cards with dice. Help protagonist Astre fight against his own corruption by rolling the dice in your favor to cleanse them and save the star system they call home.

December 19-20: Vampire Survivors

mixcollage-05-dec-2024-07-46-pm-1862.jpg

One of the hottest games of 2022, Vampire Survivors puts you in a battle for survival against hordes of enemies. This roguelike shoot 'em up has won numerous awards, including Best Game at BAFTA 2023.

Return to Moria is out, Vampire Survivors is up. One of the biggest and most popular indie hits of the last decade, Vampire Survivors is a 2D roguelite that takes you on wave after wave of the undead. You'll succumb to them eventually, but that's okay. Since this is a roguelite, you'll come back stronger and with more tools at your disposal. If you've managed to give this simple yet endlessly fun game a try, you're in luck as you can pick it up for free for the next 24 hours and then keep it forever.

December 12 – 19: The Lord of the Rings: Return to Moria

mixcollage-09-dec-2024-10-43-am-5390.jpg

The Lord of the Rings: Return to Moria is a survival and crafting game. Taking place after the events of the books, you are tasked with reclaiming the procedurally generated realm of Moria.

Just like 2023, Epic kicked off its big holiday giveaway with a game that can be picked up for an entire week, rather than 24 hours like most games that would follow. Destiny 2 started the celebrations last year and it's the same this year The Lord of the Rings returns to Moria it gets us going. War Of Rohirrim hits theaters and those who enjoyed the film can turn this festive season into a Lord of the Rings theme by picking up Return To Moria for free. You might as well watch all three extended cuts of the original trilogy because, well, you really should do that at least once a year, and the time is coming.
