Monadic passages, explained
The Monad Depths were always the highlight of the original Persona 3 story, but before Persona 3 Reload, there was no easy task. In some iterations of the game, Monad was an endgame grind before facing Nyx, while in others it was an optional challenge, but regardless, he had to defeat The Reaper earlier before leaving for Monad.

Persona 3 Reload: The Complete Missing Persons Guide
Don't these people know we have social ties to hang out with?
Persona 3 Reload changed that mechanic around – you do No need to defeat The Reaper in P3R before you can head into the Monad Depths, which is a good thing because they will start appearing in the Yabbashah block Tartarus at first infiltration, which may be immediately after the July full moon operation.
But just because you're no longer faced with a tough litmus test before diving in doesn't mean Monad will be easy – Monad Shadows are some of the harder fights in the gamebut as a reward for your bravery and training you will defeat these mini-bosses rewarded nicely after every Monad battle in P3R with things like only, costumes, weapons, and Major Arcana cards.
Monad Doors
When you first find the Monad door, Fuuka will highlight a a large black door with a glowing red symbol which is located somewhere on the floor. Run through the floor of Tartarus until you find a door, at which point Fuuka will no longer let you leave the area without exploring this initial door.
You'll find it inside this door Fuuka cannot navigate for youbut he warns that he feels a pretty intense shadow presence. Go further inside find the Shadow he's talking about, which puts up a real fight to introduce you to the Monad concept in P3R.
But your struggle is not in vain – defeat the Shadows in the Monad Doors offer lots of amazing rewards. Not only will you have automatically he explored the current floor of Tartarus and the floor directly above itbut don't forget to check two cash registers just past where the Shadow mini-boss was.
Not only will you find regular rewards like cash or skill cards, but it will be there Nihil treasury which also glows near the green. These chests offer nihilistic items that can be traded for powerful gear and armor at Mayoido Antiques.
Monad Doors respawn every night, always with a tough enemy and great prizes, so it's always worth going there whenever you're grinding or missing persons in Tartarus.
Monad passages
Finally, after you get through the Monad door in the Tartarus block, you'll have access to Monad passage which will be born quite high in the current block of Tartarus and stay on the floor where it appears even if you leave Tartarus for the night and come back another day.
Fuuka notes that this door is different, and it is—it is react to the Major Arcana cards you have collectedand won't unlock until you approach with said card in your inventory. Major Arcana cards are most often won when you defeat the full moon bossbut you will find that you do too receive them as a reward from Monad passages.
That's because you're up against at least a few inside extremely tough fights in Monad Passagessignificantly tougher than any of the other Shadows in the current Tartarus block.
It helps come to the Monad passage with fully charged theurgy. Be careful to use any charged Theurgy attacks at the start of the battle because you will losing half of your charged Theurgy gauge each time you get KOed in battle rendering all the work you did before the fight if you get KOed before you can use it.
Fortunately, Theurgy's attacks ignore normal affinities, which is good because Monad minibosses often have affinity charts that make it difficult for them to do any meaningful damage, so the more often you can use your Theurgical attacks in Monad fights, do it!
If you don't feel ready or find yourself struggling in combat, you can always choose come back later if you're underleveled or not ready yet when you hit the door The good thing about Monad Passages is that When you leave, the passage will remain on the same floor of Tartarus.
If you leave Tartarus and continue the quest the next night, you will see the teleport marked by the Monad Passage floor – has a red Monad symbol next to the floor number. They usually will just before the boundary floorsand there will be a teleporter nearby that will give you easy access if you need to leave and come back.
Fuuka will also double-check that you're ready to take on a mini-boss fight before starting a fight, so you'll never accidentally run into those more difficult fights. You also have the option to turn around if you're not quite ready.
However, after you test your mettle and prove yourself victorious in these battles, you will receive a rich extremely valuable rewardsincluding but not limited to other Major Arcana cards for an arcana not represented by Shadows of the Full Moon.
There may also be Twilight Fragment chests inside, in addition to a Nihil chest containing a prototype that you should bring to the owner, so it's always best to come prepared, but you can always double those rewards after the fight – Monad Shadows will not regenerate.
The location of each Monad passage in Tartarus
