Games Done Quick's Disaster Relief Charity Event

Gaming is one of the most popular hobbies and pastimes that help players entertain themselves and cope with the stress of everyday life. Games done quicklyfor the past 14 years, he has been using speedrunning to bring relief to those in need by raising money for various charities. While the main events usually focus on the Prevent Cancer Foundation and Doctors Without Borders, special marathons are held when the players behind Games Done Quick feel the need to help other causes. One such event would be the Games Done Quick Express, held at TwitchCon in 2018, which supported ten charities at once. Occasionally, in response to significant current events, Games Done Quick will conveniently quickly assemble a group of speedrunners to aid those afflicted by the effects at hand.

Games Done Quick's outreach and the generosity of those who took part in the event helped internationally by targeting tsunami relief aid for Japan in 2011 and later around the world through the Corona Relief Done Quick fundraiser to help those affected by the coronavirus pandemic in early 2020. As Hurricane Helene caused massive damage and destruction, GDQ once again gathered talented speedrunners to help immediately. Players interested in getting involved in helping the many people in various states of the US in need can look forward to the GDQ Disaster Relief Done Quick event, which starts on October 11th and runs through October 13th.

Rapid Disaster Relief The goal is to help with the devastation of Hurricane Helene

Disaster Relief Done A quick pick of how the impact of Hurricane Helene can't be ignored

Done Quick Games may hold other events from time to time, but usually stick to a summer and winter schedule. GDQ has the female-focused Flame and Frost Fatales side events, but it's more of a hit or miss in terms of the organization's usual schedule. Even Games Done Quick Express missed a few years at TwitchCon, and since Japan Relief Done Quick in 2011, there have only been four charity events that GDQ has put together in response to current events.

The last was Corona Relief Done Quick in 2020, which means the upcoming Disaster Relief Done Quick breaks the trend of at least three to four Games Done Quick events per year, all to help those in need due to damage caused by Hurricane Helene. GDQ's history of helping with disaster relief serves as an unspoken statement of how bad a Category 4 cyclone ravaged the eastern US, which undoubtedly affected players as well as streamer Tfue along with regular people in Florida, Georgia, Tennessee, North Carolina, and Virginia. Disaster Relief Done Quick aims to donate to the charity Direct Relief, which helps people in poverty in emergency situations.

Games Done Quick has previously supported Direct Relief in two events – Corona Relief Done Quick and as one of the charities supported at Games Done Quick Express 2018. Also of note is the speed of launching Disaster Relief Done Quick as a whole as Games Done. Quick just wrapped up his Express 2024 event at TwitchCon just two days before Helene hit the mainland. While the October event probably won't raise as much as the previous Summer Games Done Quick and Awesome Games Done Quick events, as most GDQ side events usually don't, it's still very clear that GDQ has good intentions and wishes to help those hurting in the wake of the storm. Those interested in watching or even donating can look forward to Disaster Relief Done Quick, which will take place on the Games Done Quick Twitch channel from October 11th at 6:00 PM ET through October 13th at 11:59 PM ET.
