God of War Laufey introduces a lot of exciting new changes to the franchise. The most obvious thing is that Kratos will not be the main character of this chapter. Instead, his late wife Faye takes charge as she enters a mysterious new world. While she is dead in the land of the living, she has new life in Everywhen. First game revealed for God of War Laufey has offered a sneak peek at this strange new place, and it looks fascinating.
The Everywhen has raised more questions than answers, but at least a few things are confirmed about the impressive new venue. The notice clearly stated that God of War Laufey's Everywhen is the afterlife for the gods. However, it is much more. The Everywhen is the birthplace of magic itself. Between the realm's magical qualities and its reputation as a host of dead gods, Everywhen has some interesting implications in terms of overall God of War tradition.

God of War Laufey Explained: Who is Faye?
God of War Laufey is set to follow Kratos' second wife Faye and her journey in Everywhen. Here's what you need to know about her character.
God of War Laufey's Everywhen is a fascinating new addition to the God of War universe
Okay, so Everywhen is the beginning and end of all magic and the place where gods go after death in the human realm. That's clear. However, what is not so obvious at this point is how the magically woven realm where every single god is present works. It's already been teased that there will be some really cool looking gods God of War Laufey. The Mongolian god Begtse and the Egyptian goddess Sekhmet feel like a formidable duo, but it's still not entirely clear whether the two rule Everywhen or just control part of the realm.

Who is the most powerful God at any moment?
The Everywhen isn't exclusive to just one pantheon. Every mythology goes to a realm when they die. Not every pantheon has a main god, but many have a central deity who rules over the others. This raises the big question of who is the supreme god when all the other gods are concentrated into one realm. This is bound to create a massive power vacuum. No one wants to be at the bottom of the god hierarchy, so Everywhen can be full of constant god vs god power struggles. After watching their first reveal, it's not hard to imagine a scenario where Begtse and Sekhmet try to join forces to gain control of Everywhen.
This is purely speculation, but it's very possible that Faye is going straight into a war zone that's far more harrowing than just her confrontation with Begste and Sekhmet. The main purpose of a god is to rule over others and bringing that to a setting where everything living in the realm is either a god or magical is a fascinating way for the story to go. God of War LaufeyThe main villain is still likely being kept under wraps, so seeing which other gods are potentially going after Faye is one of the most exciting aspects to think about.
It is not clear whether the gods know everything before they die
God of War Laufey's announcement also teased that Mask of Creation is somehow connected to Everywhen. For those in need of a little refresher, the Mask of Creation is an ancient artifact that can provide insight into a realm full of gods. IN RagnarokOdin came across a rift that saw what many now theorized was the Everywhen. He tried to look into the crack and this is how he claims to have lost an eye. Next to the opening was actually a broken mask. Odin's obsession with the Mask of Creation flourished from that point on, but Atreus smashed the completed version of the ancient object before the Allfather could use it to peer into the Everywhen.
In the book God of War: Lore and LegendsOdin's claims of losing his eyes are contradicted by a passage that claims he actually lost an eye after Mimir laced his water with hallucinogenic mushrooms. Despite this difference, Odin's fascination with the rift is still a central part Ragnarokstory.
This makes me wonder if every god doesn't care about Everywhen or just Odin and the others God of WarNorse gods. It would be interesting if some pantheons knew about Everywhen and others didn't. This would lean even further into the potential power vacuum created by a competing world full of gods. Gods who have prior knowledge of the magical world would have a great advantage over gods who had no knowledge of it before dying.
God of War Laufey's mixed mythology has the potential to make the God encounter the best in the series
Magic is much more powerful in Everywhen, and gods are incredibly hard to kill in this realm. There is a possibility that dying is even impossible for the strongest. This combination of power and magic is indeed a promising sign God of War Laufey's boss fight. The returning Greek gods feel like a given, and there's also a chance that the fallen Norse gods will return to the spotlight. The Everywhen feel destined to shake up previously held views God of WarIt's a lore as fans will likely see that these gods probably didn't even have access to the full extent of their powers.
There's no telling what the gods are capable of in Everywhen. This new realm could even mean that the gods were in the past God of War games have brand new abilities that make them even more powerful. It's a terrifying and exciting thought at the same time. Faye and the mysterious sword she encounters in the gameplay demo are already a dangerous duo, and the other gods will be just as powerful.
There are theories that Faye wields the sword God of War Laufey is Excalibur. Past leaks have claimed that Merlin will be a talking sword in the game, which could be a fun twist on the Excalibur mythos. However, leaks should be met with skepticism.
As exciting as this new chapter is, it won't be clear how else the game will upend the lore of the series until the Santa Monica studio decides to reveal more. There was none God of War Laufey release date not yet revealed. Hopefully that will be announced when this year's Game Awards come around in December. Until then, thinking about what Everywhen might mean for the gods and their place in the magical world is a fascinating rabbit hole.
