A developer from Rockstar Games has acknowledged and further debunked a recent theory that suggested we'd be getting news about Grand Theft Auto 6 on December 27 thanks to scribbles in a notebook.

the long long The wait for GTA 6 in 2023 seemed like it was finally coming to an end when Rockstar released the first trailer for the game, confirming its setting, protagonists and even a release window of 2025. There was certainly a lot to begin with (as evidenced by , how ripped the trailer was), but unfortunately it hasn't gone much further since then.

Most Anticipated Game is not a real award, but it still has an interesting history.

With Rockstar refusing to give us anything else to miss and remaining as cryptic as ever, it's left up to fans to try and guess when we'll see or hear something new. This has led to many wild theories, from reading key art's bullet holes using braille to using the moon's position in GTA 5 screenshots. However, the latest rabbit hole is perhaps the wildest.

Rockstar Games employee calls theory 27 Grand Theft Auto 6

Just before the New Year rang in, a Rockstar North employee known as Reckope shared a gift bag they received from the studio to celebrate the holidays. The photo they shared was scrutinized by fans desperate to hear more about GTA 6, leading to a theory on December 27 after a laptop was found that some took as a hint of a new trailer.

As we all know and as most of us predicted, the December 27th theory was eventually proven wrong and nothing happened on the holy day. Now that we've all gotten over the sting of no GTA news in 2024, Reckope took to Twitter to wish everyone a Happy New Year.

GTA 6 subreddit user Raks- pointed out that Reckope made fun of the situation when he said that their best tip for 2025 is not to leave notebooks of vacation plans lying around while taking pictures of merchandise. Of course, this is just a reference to how far some of the track searches have gone, with some saying it was ridiculous for the developers to want to travel to Florida.

My favorite of the wild jumps is still when someone suggested that the cat in the photo had VI-shaped “hair”.

And yet that's exactly what the scribbles in the notebook meant, which should probably be a sign that we need to take a break from theorizing for a while. I'd like to say that's the end of the whole situation, but I feel like some fans still choose to believe it was the wrong direction.
