How to get to the monastery ruins in Gothic 1 Remake

You can start by meeting the Gorn at the top right corner of the star icon on the map. It is marked with a red circle on the map above. It stands on the edge of a stone bridge. Talk to him and he will take you to the cave.

Head into the cave room and loot all you can, but more importantly, open the chest in the corner of the room and loot the scroll that says “Transform into Meatbug”. This is your ticket to the monastery.

Since the Gorn will be following you, it's best to let him fight. When enemies notice you, run to Gorn and he is strong enough to take care of those enemy creatures for you.

Now exit the cave and take the path to the right to the top of the mountain. You need to go back to where you met the Gorn and cross the bridge towards the monastery, just watch out for the Snappers on the other side!

Instead of trying to open a locked iron gate, look to the left where there is a bouquet of pink flowers on the wall. Go there, and then you'll see many Meatbugs lurking on the ground. It's time to use the “Transform into Meatbug” scroll..

Move straight to the wall and you'll find a crack you can get through. Keep going and get past the Snapper and stand in the middle of the yard where you can open the iron gate with the lever.

After that, you need to move to the corridor in the right corner of the monastery as shown in the picture above. Follow the path and use the ledges to climb up.

When you reach the top floor of the walls, turn right and go straight until you find the entrance to the cave. Go into the cave and follow the path to the left. Before you face the boss, the Shadow Beast, you'll fight several Snappers.

How to beat Shadow Beast in Gothic 1 Remake

The first thing that catches your eye about Shadow Feast is that it can track you down pretty quickly. So running is out of the question here. That being said, the Shadow Beast's attack moves are slow. He has some rest time between his attack chains, which creates the perfect window to strike and retreat.

One-handed weapons deal significantly less damage, but you may manage to land two hits instead of one. Ranged weapons are not recommended at allas the Shadow Beast is too nimble to let you aim and prepare a bow or crossbow.

Sword of Death - Gothic 1 Remake Image: GameRant via THQ Nordic

There is a good one-handed sword in the battle arena, the Sword of Death. If you're fast enough, you can pick it up while the Shadow Beast is chasing you, but it's risky because the sword is dead-end and it's almost impossible to equip during combat.

Even if you don't manage to get the Sword of Death early, make sure to pick up the weapon after the Shadow Beast dies.

How to get Focus Stone in Monastery Ruins in Gothic 1 Remake

Once you defeat the Shadow Beast, go to the path behind it that leads outside. You will find a Focus Stone covered in magic. Interact with him to grab the stone.

Do not return to the exit gate from the same path you reached the Focus Stone. Instead, use a small passage in the yard. It will lead to an iron gate, which you open with the handle next to it.

At the end of this path you'll reach a courtyard, but don't forget to loot the rooms along the way. Once in the main courtyard, run towards the exit gate to escape the monastery. You will hear noises, but just run and don't look back because a giant troll is chasing you!

When you exit the gate, Gorn will start a conversation with you and you can tell him about the Focus Stone. When the conversation ends, run after him and let Gorn deal with the troll. When the Juvenile Troll is low on health, it runs away. This is when you can chase it down or shoot it from a distance to kill the monster and loot what it has to offer.
