WITH Hello 2 celebrates its 20th anniversary this November, the E3 2003 demo for the game has been recreated in Halo: The Master Chief Collection. The demo of the classic FPS was unplayable for most players. However, this new mod for The Master Chief Collection finally giving fans on Steam a chance to relive the E3 2003 experience.
Before release Hello 2A demo of the game created by Bungie was shown at E3 2003. While this demo revealed the potential Halo series based on success Halo: Combat Evolvedthis segment looked very different from what was seen in the final game released on November 9, 2004. Despite this, the demo has become iconic for many fans of the series, with some hoping for a way to test its gameplay. Fortunately, now is an opportunity to do just that.
November 9 new Halo: Master Chief a Steam Workshop mod has been released that adds a playable version of the E3 demo Hello 2 from 2003. This demo was released to celebrate the game's 20th anniversary and was a collaboration between Halo Studios and Digsite. This mod allows players to take on the invading Covenant forces in the New Mombasa section of the 2003 demo. Unfortunately, this mod is only available on Steam via The Master Chief Collectionwhich means that users on other platforms cannot play it.
The 2003 E3 demo of Halo 2 is playable on Steam
While the demo is now available, it was difficult to replay. According to a post on the Xbox blog, there were various issues that had to be addressed when creating the mod for Steam. Specifically, while the assets for the original demo were restored by the Digsite Data Archeology Archive and other talented people Halo community members, the version of the Halo engine that was used to run it no longer existed. Fortunately, Halo Studios has revealed that the Digsite team has finally gotten the funds to work on the Steam Workshop mod.
Aside from this impressive 2003 E3 recreation Master Chief Collection, Halo Studios celebrated the classic Xbox game Halo Infinite. For example, the developer released a playlist featuring Forge-inspired maps Hello 2. With this new playlist, nostalgic players can battle across Beaver Creek, Lockout, Sanctuary, Ascension, Warlock, Midship and Turf themed maps. The game also introduced the Master Chief's MJOLNIR z armor Hello 2allowing fans to look like the classic 2004 iteration of the Spartan.
It will be interesting to see what else Halo Studios has in store Halo franchise in the coming months. Halo Studios has revealed that the next major series Halo the game will use Unreal Engine 5, but many details about the project are unknown. At least fans can try impressive mods like this one Hello 2 demo recreation in the interim.
