Almost anyone who is at least somewhat familiar with Pokemon franchise heard about Eevee, the Evolution Pokémon. Due to his legacy and adorable appearance, he is practically the franchise's secondary mascot, second only to Pikachu. While Eevee is a great Pokemon in its own right, many trainers seek out this Normal-type Pokemon to evolve. After all, Eevee currently has eight different evolutions, making him a fantastic member for any team.
A popular Eeveelution that has been around for a very long time is Umbreon, a Dark-type Pokemon that debuted in Generation II. This Pokémon evolved with high friendship during the night and as such is referred to as the Moonlight Pokémon. These fast and intelligent Pokémon not only have rings that glow in the moonlight, but also incredible hunting instincts. They have been seen alongside trainers of all kinds, from heroic trainers to famous villains.
Gary and Gladion both own Umbreon in the original anime
Every trainer knows their Umbreons since they haven't evolved
As seen at the beginning of the original Pokemon anime, Gary Oak, Ash's first rival and grandson of Professor Oak, travels alongside an experienced Eevee. Although not his starting Pokemon, this Eevee, later reappearing in the anime as Umbreon, is one of Gary's main fighters. Since Gary, even though he chose to become a Pokémon Researcher, is a talented Pokémon trainer, Umbreon has grown into a confident and capable fighter, able to hold his own in many battles. Umbreon is also shown to be a hero Pokémon as it helped Gary and the other protagonists in fighting the grunts and Pokémon working for Pokémon Hunter J in the Sinnoh region.
Another Umbreon that had a major supporting role was a dark-type Pokémon owned by Gladion, Lillie's older brother. When he was very young, Gladio found an injured Eevee near his home; after the Evolution Pokémon recovered, it became one of Gladion's Pokémon and a member of the family. In the present, Gladion's old friend appears to be a powerful Umbreon who loves battle and even sparred with Lusamine's Absol, whom he still considers a good friend. Although he can be a bit overzealous when it comes to battle, Umbreon is also a laid-back and loving Pokémon and cares deeply for his friends and teammates.
Spinel of the Explorers watched his Eevee develop as a child
Umbreon waits for the day her former trainer gets her heart back
IN Pokémon Horizons: The SeriesExplorers are the most prominent enemies in the show, often clashing with Liko and the rest of the Rising Volt Tacklers. However, things take a very dark turn after Gibeon disappears, allowing an Exceed scientist known as Spinel to become the organization's new leader. A thorn in Amethio's side, Spinel is often sarcastic and unkind to those he works with, although he is known to be very polite when speaking to those who work above him. Although he initially appears to be a cunning but level-headed individual, the ambitious young man's sanity begins to slip, and in one instance he suddenly laughs intensely at the sight of Lucius' ancient Arboliva, despite the dangerous power it possesses.
Spinel is shown at this point to not care about anyone, not even hesitating to abuse his fellows or even his own Pokemon. His partner Pokémon, a female Umbreon that evolved when Spinel was a child, even comes to hate her trainer, especially after he forces her to use Laquium and fight, causing great pain to the Moonlight Pokémon. Ultimately, Umbreon decides to abandon his trainer for his cruelty, and Spinel is arrested for his wrongdoing after losing to the heroes in the grand final battle. While imprisoned, Umbreon goes to visit his former trainer, though the defeat has completely shattered Spinel to the point where he can't even notice the Dark-type Pokémon's presence. It is currently unknown what will happen to Spinel or his Umbreon.

Karen and Greta from Manga each have an Umbreon as their in-game counterparts
Inevitably, both Umbreons would become “good”
While the Karen presented in the original anime and games is shown to be a good-natured and wise trainer, her counterpart in Pokemon Adventure is actually much worse. Unlike the other members of the Masked Man's Masked Children, Karen was not kidnapped in her youth. Rather, she was bored to the point where she happily joined the villain's organization herself and trained alongside Eevee, who later evolved into Umbreon. Although Karen had other Pokémon on her roster, Umbreon acted as her main fighter, using the moonlight to make himself even more formidable. After the Masked Man and his allies were defeated, Karen was able to redeem herself and later became part of the Johto Elite Four, with Umbreon still by her side.
Karen isn't the only prominent trainer to use an Umbreon, as Battle Frontier's Greta also has one on her roster. Despite her age, Greta is already a well-known trainer thanks to her fighting skills and is the current Frontier Brain of the Battle Arena, known as the Arena Tycoon. Gretin Umbreon was the first of her list to make it into the game, and was even used to fight Guile, who had stolen and taken control of several mercenary Pokémon. Later, Umbreon fought Emerald and lost with his Sudowood, but managed to knock out his Dusclops before he passed out.
