Star Fox the game won't be full price on Switch 2, but fans will have to pick up the digital version to get the lowest price. The dogfighting rail shooter series has gone 10 years without a new release, not including the once-cancelled SNES sequel that Nintendo revived in 2017, but that gap is finally closing. New Star Fox will be out soon, but not every aspect of the release is equally exciting.
After several leaks and rumors hinted that something was in the works for the series, Nintendo has revealed Star Fox on May 6th with a surprisingly early release date of June 25th, 2026. Those hoping for a brand new experience may be a bit disappointed as this is a remake Star Fox 64but the trailer did show a lot of new content and upgrades. One thing this reveal didn't include was the game's price, but now Nintendo has clarified that area, and there's good news and bad news.

New Luigi's Mansion Switch 2 game leaked
According to a new leak, a fourth Luigi's Mansion game could currently be in the works for the Nintendo Switch 2.
The digital edition of Star Fox is cheaper than the physical version
Official Nintendo Store listings for Star Fox are now live and confirm that the digital edition will cost $49.99, while the physical copy will run for $59.99. Even the higher of the two is still below the $70 standard for major first-party games these days, but having to pay an extra $10 for an actual cartridge is sure to put off some gamers. Still, this discrepancy isn't much of a surprise. Nintendo has previously stated that some physical Switch 2 games will be more expensive than their digital counterparts, as was the case with Yoshi and the Mysterious Book, but it's still a frustrating development for those who prefer hard copies.

Nintendo has run into quite a bit of controversy over how it approaches physical copies of games with its latest system. Price differences aside, the Switch 2 game cards have proven unpopular with gamers as they are essentially download code in a box instead of offering buyers many of the benefits that a physical copy usually warrants in the first place. Fortunately, Nintendo has promised that the Switch 2's first-party games won't use Game-Key Cards, so anyone who buys the more expensive Star Fox the physical edition will get the full game on cartridge, which might make the price a little easier to swallow.
While there are plenty of benefits to buying physical games, from saving storage space to alleviating ownership concerns, Star FoxThe prices make the offer of digital alternatives more pleasant. In light of reports that Nintendo is facing pressure to raise Switch 2 prices, it might be tempting to opt for a cheaper alternative to save a little money before things potentially get more expensive. It's also unclear if this dual pricing will become standard from now on, as its application has been a little inconsistent with Switch 2 games so far, but it seems to be growing.
