If you're playing the main story route, you'll encounter Jiren as the final boss of Goku's Character Episode. You'll need to defeat Jiren to progress further, and that's easier said than done.
How to start a fight against Jiren
You will be able to fight against Jiren at the end of the Tournament of Power in the cosmic survival arc. The road to this fight is tough as you will have to face a lot of tough opponents during the tournament.
Fortunately, you will play as Ultra Instinct Gokuwhich makes the fight much more fun. Still, Jiren is still a threat not to be taken lightly. There aren't many alternative routes you can take here, so we recommend you stick to the main story line for the best ending and to unlock Jiren's Character Episode.
How to beat Jiren
Jiren is a formidable force, but so are you in Ultra Instinct form. The battle begins at your incomplete Ultra Instinct form of Goku and you'll notice that Jiren is also inhibiting his true power.
As the battle progresses, Goku will master the Autonomous Ultra Instinctmaking you even more of a challenge for Jiren's base. The combat strategy is pretty straightforward, as you have to create distance and charge your Ki to enter spark mode. Once you're in Sparking Mode, you need to get close to Jiren and start a melee combo.
It is recommended to shorten your combos by pressing Ki Blast in the middle of a Rush combo, as Jiren can sometimes break free from the combo, making it difficult for you to get close to him again and deal significant damage before you run out of Sparking Mode. .
As Jiren is knocked down, you can throw your Ultimate Blast and then start charging Ki again. Repeat this process until you have depleted your opponent's entire health bar. Then there will be Jiren unlock its true potential and start fighting you seriously.
The overall strategy remains the same. However, sometimes Jiren may not even give you a chance to launch a Rush Combo. In this scenario, you have to use Super Perception or High-Speed Evasion to parry his attack and knock him away.
If you can't charge your Ki and go into spark mode, use Super Perception to knock him down and then charge up your Kior use your Ultimate Blast right away to deal a lot of damage to him if you're already in Sparking Mode.
If Jiren doesn't give you time to charge your Ki at all, you should try to look for a small opening and use Goku's No Backing Down skill, which consumes three skill points but immediately puts you into Sparking mode. it gives you a lot of bonuses like damage and defense boost.
Make sure you are a good distance away from Jiren when he is in Sparking Mode. His Ultimate Blast is unblockable and covers a large AOEso it's best to get as far away from him as possible and wait for his Sparking Mode to expire.
If you can handle it defeat Jiren quickly and you'll unlock an alternate ending where Goku wins the Tournament of Power by himself and you wouldn't have to get the cool rewards locked behind the main ending.
How to unlock Dragon Ball Super Ending by defeating Jiren
To unlock the main ending, you will have to prolong the battle with Jiren until all dialogues are completed. You'll notice that at the end of the dialogues, Vegeta says that now is the time for Goku to take down Jiren.
Defeating Jiren before the rest of the cast can finish will lead you to an alternate ending.
Once you finish all the dialogues, you can defeat Jiren, leading you to further fight against himbut this time Goku is in his base form. Frieza and Android 17 will also be playable in this battle.
Despite Goku being in his base form, you still have to do exactly what you did in Ultra Instinct form and you will be able to beat Jiren easily. If you feel that Goku will be defeated and has low HP, you can turn it off with Frieza or Android 17 and continue to fight.
Once you defeat Jiren in this battle, you'll unlock the final cutscene from Jiren's fight in the main story path and get seven Super Shenron Balls. After you complete the main route of Goku's Story, you will too unlock Jiren's Character Episode.
