Before embarking on their epic adventure, players must first decide which class or archetype they want to play as in New World: Aeternum.
How to get fish in New World: Aeternum
First you need to get a fishing rod. There are five fishing rods in the game and you can craft them at T1 Workshop or T1 Camp. Alternatively, you can buy a ready-made fishing rod from the trading post. Anyone can fish at any time and you don't have to use any specific one New world classes for that.
After you get your rod, you will need to find a suitable fishing spot. You can fish in almost any large body of water. The type of fish you get will also vary depending on where you go fishing – saltwater fish can be caught in swamps and oceans, while freshwater fish can be caught in rivers and lakes.
Once you find a suitable spot, approach the water and press F3 to enter Fishing Mode (for console players, hold UP on the D-pad and select Fishing). Button prompts will appear on the screen and by pressing the appropriate buttons you will be able to select your bait and cast your line.
After casting the line and hooking the fish, you will need to reel it in. Press left mouse button/RT/R2 to start reeling and the white circle around the fishing icon will start to fill. Release the button when the symbol in the center turns orange/red. If you don't, the fish may escape. Repeat this process until the fish is caught.
Maximize your casting distance to make it easier to reel in fish and try fishing in deep water.
How to get fishing bait
You can get bait harvesting or saving resource nodes. Salvaging clams will yield clam bait, harvesting flint and bushes will yield worms and bugs, and so on. Some types of bait, such as cheese and bread, can also be obtained from makeshift containers. Don't forget to check these resource nodes if you are doing something else like farming for gems New world.
Note that you can fish without using any bait. However, bait will increase your chances of landing a certain type of fish depending on the type of bait you use and where you fish. Some common types of lures are:
