One Piece's best swordsman is overrated

Mihawk is known as One Piece's greatest swordsman. Is it overrated?

In Zoro's case, fans know that he wants to become the world's greatest swordsman, but it's not an easy task for him to accomplish. To become the greatest swordsman in the world, Zoro will have to defeat none other than Dracula Mihawk, the current greatest in the world. After fighting Mihawk once before and getting a taste of what true power looks like, Zoro knows he has a long way to go. The good thing is that Zoro has improved tremendously in battle since then and has developed a unique strength that allows him to hold his own against Mihawk. But he still needs that final push, and that could come in the form of his left eye, which has been closed since the time jump.

Zoro's current level and power difference compared to Mihawk

  • Zoro is stronger than most Yonka commanders
  • Zoro's power will only get better

Currently, Zoro is certainly stronger than most of Yonko's first friends. In the Wano Country Arc, Zoro took big hits and gained several power-ups. His first power-up and arc came via Enma, which took him a week to learn the basics. It can be said that once the Onigashima War Arc began, Zoro did not have perfect control over Enma. But he managed to use it, at least. It wasn't until the battle against King that Zoro was finally able to harness his true powers and use them to unleash his latent Haki. Enma's power to pull Ryuo out of the user's body meant that Zoro's latent Conqueror Haki was harnessed and finally awakened. He was able to direct it with his blades.

Are you telling me Oden could control you like you were light as a feather? – Zoro

Zoro finally gained access to the advanced Conqueror's Haki and was able to infuse it incredibly well, albeit for a very short time. In this battle, Zoro was able to make quick work of the king and then save his strength for the next day.

After the events of the Wano Country arc, Zoro probably strengthened his control over Enma even more. This is especially true as fans know that Zoro is always training and making sure to get to the next level with each passing day. In Egghead, Zoro was seen fighting the likes of Lucci, and while the fight was short-lived and didn't come to a proper conclusion, Zoro definitely had the upper hand.

It can be said that at this moment One pieceZoro is easily among the strongest characters, having already defeated the likes of King. The only characters above him are the admirals, the Yonko, and of course a select few like Ben Beckman, Rayleigh, and Loki among other characters. There are certainly many characters in One Piece that are still stronger than Zoro, which means he still has a ways to go. Despite having powerful abilities like the Conqueror's Haki Infusion, and being a master swordsman, Zoro is not yet on Mihawk's level. He still needs to improve in some way or form, and his next power-up could potentially come through his left eye.

Why Zoro's eye will be the key to defeating Mihawk

Oda teased Zoro's eye by being his big boost

Mihawk was hunting

The mystery of Zoro's left eye has been absolutely massive since the timeskip. The weirdest part is that Oda didn't even address Zoro's eye injury once he got back from rewriting, which is pretty weird considering Oda always pays attention to detail. This simply means that there is something bigger around Zoro's eye that fans don't know about. This is given even more credibility when we consider that Oda planned for Zoro to close his left eye around 1997 to 1999. For those who don't know, this is the same time that One piece actually started serializing and was in its early stages. Oda had already told Watsuki, his mentor, that Zoro would continue to close his eyes. In 2021, Watsuki asked Oda again about Zoro's eye, but Oda refused to give him an answer. This further suggests that there is a great mystery surrounding Zoro's eye that could potentially be directly related to his power.

Learn more about the world and grow stronger, Roronoo Zoro. I will wait for you on top of this throne. – Mihawk

Naturally, fans would wonder how Zoro's eye could help him defeat Mihawk. As things stand, Zoro needs two main powers. The first major ability Zoro needs to acquire is the ability to improve his control over Conqueror's Haki. Right now, Zoro can't maintain his Conqueror Haki for long.

Luffy's reward will only increase in the final saga. His next reward in One Piece could be after Elbaf.

After a few minutes, his body runs out of Haki and he dies. This is something that Zoro explicitly confirmed in Wano. This basically means that Zoro will have to dramatically improve his strength and learn to emit Haki only in moments, or at least improve his Haki pool to last in long battles.

Besides, Zoro would still need something to push him to the level of the four emperors and be strong enough to defeat the likes of Mihawk. This is where his left eye could come into play, and fans know that his left eye can be tied to his demonic powers, which Zoro has already shown several times, such as when he showed off Ashura in One Piece.

In the Enies Lobby Arc, there were people who could sense Zoro's demonic aura, and even Kaku had actually seen Zoro manifest a demon-like entity with just the force of his will. Fans know that Asura exists as an extension of Zoro's demonic willpower and have already seen her in battle on numerous occasions, most recently against Kaido.
