Lords of the Fallen Update 1.6 patch notes
Game improvements
We've implemented additional game adjustments based on community feedback and extensive game testing. It's heartening to see our 'Recent Reviews' score on Steam rise, reflecting the positive impact of these ongoing improvements, and we're committed to continuing this journey with your valuable input.
Key benefits include:
- Crowd Density: Based on your feedback, we've tweaked certain mob encounters to create a smoother and more immersive combat experience by isolating instances to prevent crowding. Returning players may find it worth starting over as we've added a few new surprises! (The original enemy layout and density are still accessible via NG+ modifiers.)
- Ranged Enemies: Adjusted the perception of certain ranged units to fix cases that were unfair or unrealistic.
- Jumping: Platforming in Pilgrim's Perch has been improved with improved indicators that make jumps clearer and navigation smoother.
- PvP Scaling: To improve skill-based gameplay in PvP, we've rebalanced the scaling mechanics, especially for magic-infused weapons and spells. These adjustments are PvP only, so PvE players can continue with their current builds unaffected.
- Attack Displacement: Some weapon attacks have been tweaked slightly to reduce displacement, giving a greater sense of control while maintaining efficiency and supporting your playstyle.
Improved learning, onboarding and start-up experiences
We've taken steps to further enhance the experience for new players getting into Lords of the Fallen based on feedback from our veteran Lampbearers. We want every new player to feel empowered on their journey, and we understand that some of the early tutorials may have presented a steep learning curve. What's new:
- Improved Lighting in Defiled Sepulchre: Improved lighting and visual tweaks make this area of the introductory tutorial brighter and easier to navigate.
- Step-by-Step Umbral Tutorial: Core abilities like soulflay and siphoning now have dedicated tutorial spaces in Redcops, allowing new players to step into each feature step by step.
- Simplified First Jump Tutorial: We've improved the jump tutorial to be more accessible (hands up in the comments if you cleared it on the first try!).
- Lightreaper boss edit in NG0: To clarify the intentional design of this encounter, we removed the Lightreaper boss fight from the tutorial area for NG0 players. Rest assured: Lightreaper still lurks in Mournstead and will make a surprise return in NG+.
An immersive umbral realm for explorers
Umbral, a parallel realm intertwined with the living world of Axiom, is accessible at any point in the game and offers a vast world of alternate paths, hidden treasures and secrets. We know how much you enjoy exploring Mournstead, and many of you have been asking for a more friendly Umbral realm to explore. With this in mind, we've made several tweaks to enhance its immersive atmosphere while maintaining its mysterious and challenging nature.
While the Umbral remains intentionally hostile, we've made adjustments to its sounds, visuals, and enemy spawn curve. Now the filaments (umbral natives) are slower to detect your presence, giving you some precious time to explore before the haunting in the realm intensifies. Eventually, the Scarlet Shadow appears, forcing you to make a choice: run or engage in an epic showdown.
These changes make Umbral more suitable for exploration while retaining its terrifying intensity and challenging atmosphere:
- Dynamic Ambient Sound: The initial entry into the Umbral is now accompanied by softer soundscapes that build in intensity as you linger longer, reaching a crescendo before having to find an exit or risk facing the Crimson Reaper.
- Adjusted Enemy Spawn Curve: Enemy skins are now more paced to create a smoother, more gradual build-up of tension.
- More delay for Scarlet Shadow: You will now have more time to explore before Scarlet Shadow appears, increasing the tension.
- Reduced Vignetting Effect: Based on player feedback, the vignetting effect has been softened to improve visibility when exploring the Umbral.
- Clearer Umbral Eggs: Added special VFX to eggs for Umbral natives to spawn as we noticed that some players had trouble distinguishing between active and inactive.
These updates create a richer exploration experience in Umbral, preserving its dark appeal and ratcheting tension for daring adventurers.
Performance improvement
We've implemented additional performance improvements in several more graphically demanding areas of the game, optimizing the experience for players on lower-spec computers.
