IN Frostpunkplayers will take control of New London, which is believed to be the final home of humanity's last survivors. But this does not mean that there were no other settlements before. Winterhome was one such settlement and its story is one of the most tragic parts Frostpunk tradition.
The Lore of Frostpunk 2's Winterhome Explained
Winterhome was one of the earliest settlements of the British Empire
In 1886, a snowstorm of apocalyptic proportions swept the world. This storm resulted in an event referred to as the “Great Freeze”, in which the entire world was plunged into a cold darkness that refused to recede. Seeking to protect its people, the British Empire used all its resources and money to accelerate the production of heat generator turrets and amphibious Land Dreadnoughts.
These Land Dreadnoughts would transport a select few to bases equipped with supplies and structures tailored to combat the increasingly cold weather. Winterhome was one of the first of these bases to be created and acted as the headquarters of the British Empire's Research and Expeditionary Force. By the time London collapsed due to poor infrastructure and mass panic, Winterhome was a fully functional city, complete with advanced technology such as automatons.
Fall of Winterhome
But despite the advanced technology and prosperity, Winterhome had a fundamental problem that could not be solved. At the heart of all bases stands a tall heat generator tower that provides heat and power to the entire city. Without this generator, the base would only last a few weeks. But the Winterhome generator had a critical flaw.
When Winterhome's generator first failed, panic spread like wildfire among the townspeople. To try to bring the chaos under control, Captain Winterhome instituted a brutal authoritarian regime, physically forcing his people to stay in line. When the generator broke down again, the people decided to rebel against the Captain and their regime, sparking a full-scale civil war.
The rebels staged a successful coup and Captain Winterhome was executed along with the rest of his leading officers. The rebels elected a new captain to lead Winterhome and, against all odds, managed to repair the damage to the city and restore much of its society. But once London fell and refugees began to appear, Winterhome's fate was sealed. Riots soon broke out due to food shortages, and a faulty Winterhome generator exploded in the chaos.
Anyone not killed in the generator's initial explosion was either killed in the resulting anarchy or forced into the Frostlands. Only one or two citizens of Winterhome survived to tell the town's tragic tale, rescued by scouts sent from New London.

The script from last fall strongly suggests that players controlled by the scavengers are stealing the parts that would be used to repair Winterhome's generator, thereby destroying the town.
