Mikio Ikemoto officially redeems his worst character in the next arc of two blue vortexes

After the official release Boruto: Two Blue Vortexes Chapter 33, Masashi Kishimoto and Mikio Ikemoto, the creators of the series, officially marked the beginning of a new arc with the death of Mamushi. In doing so, the two also brought back one of the most important characters that was sidelined after the discovery of Shinju – Code.

Despite being incredibly powerful, Code has often been sidelined and defeated by various characters in the Boruto series thus far. Still, he quietly continues to improve his overall arsenal, and the end of chapter 33 of the TBV manga finally brings him back, setting him up for his big moment as a new arc begins on May 20, 2026.

Boruto Author finally sets the code for the new power-up

Code was initially a member of Kara and served as one of the Inner Ones. He had always been incredibly strong, especially after having his body worked on by Amado, but his true power lay in the White Karma he received from Isshiki Otsutsuki. He technically wanted to be a vessel for Isshiki, but failed. However, thanks to the White Karma he received from them, he gained immense power without having to become a vessel for Otsutsuki. Despite this, Code was often lost to creator Mikio Ikemoto.

It would be a shame to let the Thorn Soul Bulb rot! — Boruto Uzumaki, Two Blue Vortexes Chapter 33

IN Boruto: Two Blue Vortexes Chapter 5, author Mikio Ikemoto confirmed that the Code was severely injured by Sasuke despite having attained tremendous powers. Similarly, in Boruto: Two Blue Vortex Chapter 3, Code easily defeated Boruto Uzumaki with his Rasengan: Uzuhiko, and subsequently even Shinju managed to overpower him despite being their creator in Chapter 4. This means that the creators of the Boruto series are preparing him for bigger things, as clearly seen in the last page of Blue Vort3 Chapter. Two.

Immediately after obtaining the Thorn Soul Bulb of Code, Boruto decided to go after Bug and free him from the tree. Unaware that Code has marked the tree with his Claw Mark, Boruto waits for the young Uzumaki to appear with the Thorn Soul Bulb. The moment he does, Code intends to steal the bulb and consume it, forcing his own evolution that makes him tremendously powerful.

Why Code's Character Arc Makes Him The Perfect Antagonist

Code Character Arc Perfect Antagonist boruto

Masashi Kishimoto and Mikio Ikemoto created the code for the perfect character arc. After analyzing Code's entire story up to this point, it is clear to us that he is an individual who constantly craves more power in order to live up to Isshiki Otsutsuki's expectations. Unable to serve as his ship, Code decided to fulfill his will. As such, he intends to evolve as much as possible and live up to the words that Isshiki Otsutsuki spoke to him in Boruto: Naruto Next Generation's Chapter 53.

Evaluating Code's character beyond the surface level also tells us that he is an individual who grows through loss. Code isn't your typical anime overpowered villain who stands at the pinnacle of power and forces the protagonist to grow. Instead, she is someone who grows alongside the protagonists and has her own motivations.

Smile while you still can. 'Cause I'll be the one who laughs last. — Code, Boruto: Two Blue Vortexes Chapter 15

The code gained strength after Amado removed its limiters, but even that wasn't enough. Now that Boruto Uzumaki, Kawaki, and Shinju have bested him, Code must find ways to grow up on his own, and he did just that when he completed plans to consume the Thorn Soul Bulb in the next chapter of the manga.

As such, Code is a dynamic antagonist who we feel serves as another face to the protagonist Boruto Uzumaki. His development in terms of strength happens side by side with the protagonists, making him unique when it comes to anime antagonists. Despite being incompetent for the longest time, Code is slowly approaching his own version of perfection. By consuming the Thorn Soul Bulb and gaining Mamushi's power, Code takes a step closer to having the last laugh after his previous defeats against Boruto Uzumaki and Shinju. Slowly but surely, Code is preparing to become an incredible villain for the upcoming Boruto: Two Blue Vortex arcs.
