The Japanese company behind the Switch consoles has released a new mobile app for iOS and Android called The Nintendo Storeand as the name suggests, it provides easier access to the company's online store. Nintendo already offers several mobile apps, including the popular Nintendo Music and Nintendo Today, but this new release is something that fans have been asking for for a long time.
It's no secret that 2025 was an excellent fiscal year for Nintendo, with recent figures showing that the release of the Switch 2 boosted the company's net sales. Based on this success, Nintendo expects to sell even more of its current generation of consoles as 2026 approaches. At the same time, the company appears to be focusing on improving access to its online store, making it easier for fans to purchase both hardware and software.
The Nintendo Store app was released for iOS and Android
After almost five years of being exclusive to Japan, the Nintendo Store app, formerly known as the My Nintendo app, has finally launched in most major regions for iOS and Android users. The main function of the app is to allow fans to browse, search and add Nintendo games, gadgets and consoles to their wish lists with direct links to purchase them from the company's online store. It also includes a News section that informs users about the latest platform events, releases and announcements.
Nintendo Store app details
- Compatible operating systems: iOS (16.0 or later), Android (10.0 or later)
- Age restriction: Some parts of the application are restricted to users over 17 years of age
- Requirements: Nintendo Account, Internet connection
- Size: ~46MB
While users can browse and wishlist Nintendo products in the app, the buy button will redirect them to the company's website. In other words, direct in-app purchases are not supported.
In the profile section of the Nintendo Store app, users can view their purchase history, manage My Nintendo rewards and redeem codes. They can also track their game activity by linking the Nintendo Account used in the app to the Switch console. The Nintendo Store has an average rating of 4.1 out of 5 on Google Play and has been downloaded over a million times at the time of writing. With the Nintendo Switch app having been downloaded over ten million times on the platform, this new app has the potential to attract even more users soon. Reviews from iOS users are not yet available, but the app seems to be attracting a healthy level of popularity on Apple devices as well.
