Nintendo Switch 2 game stock warning after real-looking cartridge cracks console

AND Nintendo Switch 2 owner shares his woes in hopes of warning other gamers after what appeared to be a legitimate cartridge ended up breaking the console. While the Nintendo Switch 2 game was purchased from a site that should normally sell reputable games, it seems that this player received something other than that.

For almost as long as gaming systems have existed, counterfeit game cartridges and discs have appeared alongside them. In some cases, these fakes are just a waste of time and money, but gamers may want to take extra care to double-check any games they purchase to make sure they don't end up with a much bigger problem than a dirty cartridge.

Rumor: Nintendo Switch 2 is getting a critically acclaimed RPG

A new rumor claims that Nintendo Switch 2 users will be getting a new version of the well-reviewed RPG sometime in the near future.

A fake Pragmata cartridge breaks the Nintendo Switch 2

On Reseter, a player named jokkir explained that he had purchased a copy of the new Capcom game Pragmatics from Amazon and ended up with a Switch 2 that can no longer read game cartridges. According to jokkiro, they found the cartridge for sale in the Amazon Resale category, formerly known as Amazon Warehouse, which often sells items at a lower price. These items are usually returned or used and as a result are sold at a lower price. Jokkir thought they were getting a good deal since the game cost $56CAD instead of $80CAD, but when they put the cartridge in their system it didn't work. When trying to eject the cartridge got stuck and had to be pryed out of switch 2.

Upon closer inspection, the jokkir found that the cartridge case was a fake. At first they thought the pins were stuck in their console, but upon closer examination, they discovered there were no pins to begin with. The hub was just a plastic casing with no real “guts” inside. However, as a result, the Nintendo Switch 2 no longer reads actual game cartridges. Any cartridges they own are now unusable, and while Amazon may refund the purchase of a fake cartridge, it's highly unlikely they'll take responsibility for a damaged console.

Other gamers have expressed sympathy for the situation, with many saying that from now on they will carefully examine any new Switch cartridges they pick up before trying to use them. Others warned that similar problems could occur at any retailer, with some saying they had previously purchased games from Amazon Warehouse that were not inspected before being put back on sale.

Unfortunately, this isn't the first time a gamer has shared that he accidentally damaged the cartridge port on his Nintendo Switch 2. Last year, shortly after the launch of the Nintendo Switch 2, a gamer decided to modify a copy Donkey Kong Banana by spraying on the yellow paint. The paint caused the cartridge to stick when inserted, and when he tried to pry it out, the cartridge cracked and part of it got stuck in the port. Although Nintendo Switch 2 systems with a damaged cartridge port can still work normally with digital games, losing the ability to read cartridges, especially if they have already purchased many physical titles, is extremely unfortunate.
