Nintendo Switch Online subscribers just got a new game to play, a 1995 Game Boy title Donkey Kong Land is now available on the service. Edition Donkey Kong Land came to Nintendo Switch Online just a few days after the SNES classic Donkey Kong Land celebrated its 30th anniversary.

Originally released by Nintendo and Rare in June 1995, Donkey Kong Land is a 2D platformer inspired by Donkey Kong Land trilogy. Considered one of the best titles in Donkey Kong series, Donkey Kong Land it also spawned its own trilogy with two sequels released in 1996 and 1997. Donkey Kong LandDonkey Kong and Diddy Kong are tasked by Cranky Kong to replenish the Kongs' scarce stockpile of bananas after their long-time enemy, King K. Rool, is goaded by Cranky into stealing the entire supply. Donkey Kong Land contains 30 levels in four worlds.

Nintendo is launching an amazing Switch Online deal ahead of Black Friday 2024, though its promotion comes with an unfortunate catch.

Although Switch Online had an update back in November, fans were able to enjoy even more content. Donkey Kong Land is now available to download on the Game Boy app for Nintendo Switch Online subscribers. Users need to connect their Switch consoles to the internet and the Game Boy app should update automatically. Alternatively, the application can be updated manually by opening the Options menu, going to Software Update and selecting Update over the Internet. After the download is complete, the system will check if your Nintendo Switch Online subscription is active. Nintendo released a short gameplay trailer Donkey Kong Land so players can preview what it will look like in the app using the classic Game Boy filter. Game Boy Pocket and Game Boy Color filters can also be used to play Donkey Kong Land. The trailer showed the different environments that Donkey and Diddy will travel through, including some that will require riding animals to get through.

Arrival Donkey Kong Land is just the latest in a series of games developed by Rare for older Nintendo platforms. Between releases Banjo-Tooie and Perfect darkness in the Nintendo 64 app, players saw the return of some of Rare's work to Nintendo platforms via the Switch subscription service. Although other titles like Donkey Kong 64 remain out of sight at the time of writing, it remains to be seen how the Switch Online service will end in 2024.

Between releases Donkey Kong Land in the Game Boy app and the January release Donkey Kong Country returns in HDfans of Nintendo's monkey mascot have plenty of reason to celebrate. Only time will tell what the future holds Donkey Kong series.
