Ocarina of Time Remake officially changes the Hylian Shield

Coming Zelda: Ocarina of Time remake has changed the Hylian Shield from how it looked in the original game, based on a new trailer released by Nintendo. Opinions on the move are mixed among fans Ocarina of Timewith some preferring the original look.

The existence of a Ocarina of Time a remake has been rumored for a long time, with leaks suggesting it was in development, but without official confirmation from Nintendo. That all changed during the summer's Nintendo Direct, which concluded with a short teaser for the game. Not much was shown, aside from some background images and a brief glimpse of a young Link, but the title card already gave something away.

Hylian Shield Zelda: Ocarina of Time has been updated

Although it was only seen briefly during the title screen at the end of the trailer, it didn't take long for fans to notice that something had changed. Ocarina of TimeThe Hylian Shield appears to have been replaced by a newer design that has been in use ever since Heavenly Sword, and returned in both Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom. Notably, the Triforce and crest take up less space on the newer design, and the notorious fourth triangle at the base of the shield has been removed. The silver edge of the shield is also more ornate than the original Ocarina of Time version. The master sword has also been updated, with gold decoration now on the hilt instead of underneath, and the sword's hilt is wrapped as a modern version of the iconic weapon.

Surprisingly, this is the first time that Ocarina of Time the shield has been significantly changed. Ocarina of Time 3D for the Nintendo 3DS remarkably retained the original shield design, albeit with a graphical upgrade. However, Ocarina of Time 3D released in 2011, earlier the same year as Heavenly Swordso the now standard Hylian Shield design had not yet been introduced in time for the release of the remaster. It is highly likely that the change in the upcoming remake was made to unify the designs with the newer games in the series. The fourth triangle on the original Ocarina of Time The Hylian Shield has greatly fueled many rumors about the fourth piece of the Triforce, which could be another reason for its removal.

However, whether this means anything for the game's lore remains to be seen. Not much is known about Ocarina of Time remake from official channels, so players will have to wait and see if there are plans to expand the original game, or if it might even cut some content from the N64 classic. It's possible that the remake will include nods to elements that have been introduced to the series since then – but happened chronologically before Ocarina of Time – as Fi from Heavenly Sword. However, there's a good chance that Nintendo will stick with what made the classics great without introducing too many new plots, if any, because Ocarina of Time is considered a treasure by many players.
