One Piece's The Elbaf arc continues to reveal a lot of exciting information to fans, especially when it comes to characters like Redhaired Shanks. Alt is not directly involved in the Elbaf Arc, fans know that Shanks is extremely important here, and Oda has already incorporated him into the arc via flashbacks while giving him personal relationships with the likes of Harald and even Loki.
As for Luffy, fans are well aware of how big a role he plays in his life. Shanks is Luffy's idoland quite easily the biggest reason he's even a pirate today, all to do with his great sacrifice for Luffy – his left arm.

And much to the surprise of fans here he was seen carrying the mark of the Abyss on his left arm. This mark can only be granted by a world government, probably Imu. All holy knights have this mark on their armsand that basically means they are subordinate to Im.

Shanks knows that Luffy is Nika and Roger's successor
Shanks, he knew Luffy is the successor of Nika and Rogerhe didn't think twice about saving a life and even sacrificed his own arm for it. It is highly likely that his connection to Imu was multiple on this day and that he most likely decided to sever the connection since then found another Nika which he was desperately searching for.
