Overwatch's new hero Shion copies Apex Legends' homework, but with a better grade

From OverwatchA major relaunch, dropping memorable heroes at an impressive pace. The five heroes who came next Overwatch dropping 2 from his name makes everyone a winner; fans love Emre's Halo vibes, the long-requested Jetpack Cat lifeline allows for ferocious teamwork, Anran's quick-fire style feels fresh, Domina's Emma Frost stance has taken the internet by storm, and Mizuki can be a beast in the hands of the right Support player. Sure, Anran's face model needed a rework, and the Season 2 hero Sierra suffered from questionable balancing and an arguable “boring” design, but the hype surrounding Shion from Season 3 suggests that Blizzard hit another home run. However, for Apex Legends fans, it may actually look a little familiar.

Visually, Shion is quite unique. Unlike Overwatch The other space Omnics have a humanoid appearance, boasting long white hair, a metal face mask resembling that of a high-tech geisha, normal-looking hands, and a body that could easily resemble that of a real person. It seems like something out of place Cyberpunk or Blade Runner franchise unlike an Apex Legends character, so at first glance the comparison may not seem entirely apt. Mechanically, though, there are some clear parallels with Respawn's latest Legend, Axle, though Shion's exceptional character design allows for the powers to be packaged in a much cooler way.

Shion starts next Overwatch Season 3 on June 16 with a brand new base map and a battle pass alongside it.

“It's Time To Rip The Band-Aid” – Why Marvel Rivals Needs Overwatch's Most Infamous Feature

While one feature of Overwatch was controversial when it was introduced, it made the game much healthier, and it's time for Marvel Rivals to follow suit.

What Overwatch's Shion and Apex Legends' correction have in common

The most obvious similarity between the latest Overwatch and Apex Legends The characters are actually what Shion fans are talking about the most: her bike. Shion can hop on a futuristic motorcycle during a match, either ride it out of conflict and to safety, or use it to get into the middle of a fight. The Axle, on the other hand, is essentially a living bike in its own right, as it can mount a wheel from the knee thanks to its passive ability. Said passive speeds up her glides and allows players full significant directional control of her movement ability. Just as Axle players will spend their time gliding around the map instead of running, it's safe to assume that Shion users will be on their bike a lot.

However, the similarities do not end there Apex LegendsAxle also has an Ultimate ability that is similar to Shion's Execution. While Shion's ability is a regular cooldown, lacks Axle's Kickstart, and looks like an X-pattern instead of a drone, it basically serves the same purpose. Axle uses Kickstart to finish off low health targets or set them up for a kill, and Shion uses Execution to clean up enemies she's weakened with her Kira Pistols. Additionally, both characters seem to crave action and violence and boast edgy personalities (although Axle seems a bit more sensible than her). Overwatch counterpart). It's hard not to notice these similarities, but Shion is more than just an Axle clone as he has a few things that make him more appealing as a character.

Why Shion is a more interesting character than Axle

While Axle was particularly exciting purely because she was the first Legend in almost a year, character-wise, she doesn't have as much experience as Shion. Outside of the steering wheel at the back of the foot, she's pretty bland visually, not standing out nearly as much as the all-white robot that talks through her throat. As per tradition, Shion has already received a story trailer and will likely appear in several Overwatch comics and lore drops during Season 3, while the latest Outlands stories Apex Legends season means the axle feels underdeveloped by comparison. And when it comes to mechanics, Shion has a lot to offer. Her Ultimate allows her to attack enemies like a Beyblade, and because Overwatch is a hero shooter instead of a battle royale, it has a signature weapon that no other character in the game uses, giving it even more personality.

Another big advantage Shion has over Axle is that she probably won't feel as overpowered out of the gate. Sure, her gameplay trailer makes her abilities look devastating, but Overwatch heroes facing Shion do not shoot or heal. And after Sierra was criticized for feeling overpowered during Season 2, Blizzard will likely be extra careful not to release another DPS character that feels underpowered. Axle, on the other hand, was considered by many to be overpowered Apex Legends fans due to the constant spamming, with console players in particular feeling like they have nothing to compete with the skilled Axle user. So while there are a few similarities in abilities, Shion looks like the more interesting hero visually, mechanically, and traditionally. Plus, at launch (hopefully) she won't be as overpowered as Top28. the legend turned out to be.
