It's been 13 long years since we had a Sly Cooper game on PlayStation. Sure, Sony ported the original trilogy to modern hardware through the PlayStation Classics program, but Thieves in Time is the latest “new” experience, and that's on PlayStation 3 and — wait for it — PlayStation Vita.
Sucker Punch keeps the spirit of the franchise alive by incorporating references, costumes and other bits into its other titles, most recently Ghost of Yotei on PlayStation 5.

However, some fans are convinced that Sly Cooper is close to a comeback. The evidence they have is somewhat compelling, and with Sony having a bigger PlayStation State of Play set for tomorrow (Tuesday, June 2), it's worth diving into.
Are the former Sanzar developers hiding something?
Earlier this year, Meta closed Sanzaru Games, the team behind Thieves in Time, and the studio that once proposed a remake of the very first Jak & Daxter title, another PlayStation fan franchise that has yet to receive a new entry.
Not even a few weeks later, however, the former developers founded their own studio called Sneaky Devil Studios.
“The Sneaky Devil Studios team brings decades of experience across every gaming medium, from the genre-defining Asgard's Wrath VR to classic action-adventure classics like Sly Cooper and Sonic the Hedgehog,” its chief creative officer Matt Kraemer said in a statement at the time. “Now we're going back to our roots and focusing on console and PC platforms. The sneaky team is hard at work on something new.”
This studio name is where fans believe Sly Cooper is being worked on to some extent. His name, as pointed out by the Sly Cooper subreddit, is a direct reference to a line Bentley says in Sly 3 when he calls Sly a “sneaky devil”.
At one point, Sly Cooper's voice replied to Kraemer on LinkedIn, to which Kraemer said in a now-deleted reply that they should work together again using a winking emoji.
Then it doesn't help that a recent report suggested that Sony is exploring possible avenues to revive and utilize its older unused IP addresses. This particular rumor came on the heels of news that something infamous was in the works, but the general idea could be applied to any number of franchises, from Killzone to SOCOM to Ape Escape.
Time will tell in the end, but if there's ever been a better time, State of Play makes a ton of sense.
